RENAULT 8TS FOR RESTORATION (Spanish R8 Gordini) for sale
Current customer rating:
In Spain in the 60 s the purchasing power of the average citizen was well below that of its French counterpart and the price of a Renault 8 Gordini escaped the reach of most users
With the arrival of the Simca 1000 Barreiros. with
more sporty handling and performance. the standard Renault 8 fell a little short.
FASA (Renault Spain) was quick to react and launched a sports version of the Renault 8 cheaper than the R 8 Gordini and called it the
Renault 8 TS.
This new variant utilised the French Renault 8 S engine of 1108 cc and was fed by a twin choke Weber carburettor.
The TS produced 56 bhp compared to 41 for the standard version and had a top speed of 147 kph
To accentuate the “sportiness”. the R 8 TS utilised a four-headlight front like the Renault 8 Gordini 1300 .
Inside. the changes were based on a model-specific upholstery and a more complete and attractive. instrument panel. With the arrival of this little sports
saloon came
competition challenges specifically for Renault 8 TS cars which produced budding motorsport champions.
The Renault 8 TS was made in Spain from 1968-1976 and represented for the country one of the first examples of modern sports saloon concept manufactured on a large scale
This particular car was manufactured in 1969 and is fitted with the larger 1300 (1289 cc) engine. plus it has been uprated with Gordini rear suspension that has twin shock absorbers each side.
The car is left hand drive and was imported some time ago and dry stored prior to UK registration in the Historic Vehicle class in August 2012.
Since then it has been garaged and started regularly but not moved. It now needs recommissioning and attention to the brakes which. although working. are binding somewhat. There is no serious rust apparent but the paintwork is quite faded and the car would benefit from a respray.
There is a current V 5 C registration document and the car is on SORN at present. There is no MOT. The odometer reading is 23857 km and cannot be regarded as accurate.
Viewing by genuine buyers is welcome. the car is in Wimborne. Dorset.
