1976 AMC PACER . nbsp; This is my 'mirth mobile' - and although I have not banged my head to Bohemian Rhapsody in it. I have had a lot of fun and enjoyed driving around in such a distinctive car.
I bought the car in San Francisco last year from a guy who said the car was in his family from new. He made sure I knew about the brakes pulling a little to the right and gave instruction on the column change gear shifter as well as giving me some spares including a power brake booster.  I shipped the car to the UK. and registered it here after replacing the brake cylinders flexi hoses and shoes etc for the MOT.  The brakes no longer pull and mastering the gear shift was simple.
The car has had no welding repairs and is pretty much as it left the factory back in 76.  The paint finish is original with a small area on the osf wing. and the osr quarter being later additions. There is no evidence of filler in these areas and the paint seems pretty old - certainly not accident or corrosion related. It has some stone chips and usual age related dints etc as you would expect on a 37 yr old car.
Underneath the car is excellent and free from the rust and grot we would expect on a UK car from 76. The underpinnings are all good and parts are readily available from UK suppliers.
The car is a 3 speed column change manual transmission and a 4. 2 straight 6 motor - the car is pretty quick and runs really nicely. with no oil or water consumption . smoke or other foibles.  The clutch is a bit high. although it doesn't slip. and the gears whine a little in first and second. I would put this down to the car being able to set off in either gear and being driven accordingly - 3rd is quiet. and all gears are pretty long ratios.
The interior is in good condition. especially for an older American car. It is also a little quirky as the pattern looks like a mix of Native American Indian and Snake skin  - its not snakeskin. it is cloth. and the seats are very comfy too !
Overall this is a very original and sound example of a pretty rare car both in the US and of course here. Visually unforgettable. it is great to drive. and physically the length of a Golf  (but a bit wider) so not a typical oversized American car.  I would happily drive it anywhere. and it is more than capable of being a daily driven commuter or family vehicle.
The Pacer is located closed to Guildford in Surrey and viewings are welcomed.
