Current customer rating:
We are delighted to present this recently-arrived example of Alpine-Renault's rare rear-engined 2+2 sporting coupe. It is powered by a rear-mounted 1.6-litre twin-Weber carburetted inline-four, delivering 122 bhp to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. This A 310 is the rarer early ‘VE' model, featuring the six-headlight front end. There is detailed history going back to the early 1980 s covering a significant mechanical overhaul. The car was first registered in France in July 1973, and was imported to the UK in August 2000.
The A 310 was released at the Geneva Motor Show in 1971 as a follow-up model to the iconic A 110, and was designed as a grand tourer from the outset, with a comfortable leather-lined four-seat cabin. The mechanical specification provides excellent ride and handling with a fully independent wishbone suspension set up. This example has won two awards from the UK Alpine Club during the previous keeper's ownership and was imported to the UK in 2000 by a classic Renault specialist who owned it for 14 years. It was also featured in Classic Cars magazine in July 2014.
Between 1980 and 2000, the car was in single ownership. Riding on a set of correct Alpine-branded 13-inch wheels, the car is finished in silver over a black leather cabin. It is equipped with an eight-gauge dashboard, electric front windows, and an aluminium and leather-trimmed Alpine steering wheel. The resprayed silver paintwork and alloy wheels both present excellently and the cabin is in excellent order following a complete retrim in 2014. In 2015 Alpine specialist JL engineering replaced the clutch and brake slave cylinder. Further work carried out between 2014 and 2021 included an engine oil and filter change, coolant change, new brake master cylinder and wiper motor. An upgraded rear cooling fan was also fitted, as well as a rebuilt starter motor and alternator. This A 310's most recent service in 2020 included an engine oil and filter change. There are receipts prior to the current ownership for a rebuilt engine and carburettors, as well as the removal of the gearbox to check for oil leaks.
Having undergone a thorough mechanical and cosmetic restoration, this A 310 is a collector-quality vehicle, now ready to be enjoyed as a delightful weekend cruiser or a head-turning show car.
