Austin 7 Seven Mulliner Sports 2 Seater 1930 Vintage Restoration Barnfind Project.

 

A very rare opportunity to buy an extremely desirable vintage Austin 7 Mulliner Sports 2 Seater car from 1930.   One of only 13 Mulliner Sports known to the Austin 7 Mulliner register.

These cars were coachbuilt onto a standard Austin 7 chassis by Mulliners at Bordesley Green. Birmingham. England in the late 1920's and early 1930's.

 

A delightful little 2 seater sports car. with fabric covered boat-tail body and split-Vee windscreen.

In need of complete restoration having been stored for over 30 years after being partly dismantled by the previous owner. who also repainted the chassis.   Unlike so many other barnfind restoration projects this one has not been stripped of all the valuable. hard to find parts.   Comes with an old V5 registration document but no current V5C.  2 letter 4 number registration number.   Original Mulliner body ID plate is still fitted.   One owner since 1981.

Originally black fabric and black paint finish with red interior trim.

 

This particular car has the taller more elegant Austin 7 radiator and the longer bonnet. which was introduced to create the impression that the car was fitted with a bigger engine.   Also has the benefit of coupled brakes.

 

·     Chassis is in excellent condition with front axle and rear axle assembly with prop shaft and flexible coupling.  Axle turns ok. Plus front and rear suspension. radius arms. hand brake lever

·     Body with boat-tail rear section and hinged boot lid. plus 2 doors all in need of restoration. doors complete with all 4 original brass hinges. 2 handles and 2 catches. Scuttle timbers are repairable. boat-tail timbers need replacing but existing are useable as a template

·     Bonnet. needs repair. with spring catches and fitted with original hinge and handles

·     Dash board with original instruments. switches and choke control. clock is included but was removed from dash for safe keeping. clock is in working order and keeps good time.

·     2 Original steel front wings with stays

·     2 Original steel rear wings

·     Engine is not seized as crank/rods/pistons turn ok.   Camshaft and valves removed by previous owner.   Internal condition unknown. New valves/guides/springs are included

·     Gear box with gear change lever.  Internal condition unknown

·     5 Wire spoke wheels

·     Radiator and brass radiator cowl. complete with Austin badge

·     2 Original Lucas "King of the Road" brass head lights. complete with mounting brackets

·     Original vee windscreen mounting brackets and screen frames with glass for pattern.  Plus new special brass mouldings to make new frames if required.   Screen is fitted with an original Lucas "King of the Road" vacuum operated windscreen wiper unit

·     2 Seats. one original to the car. one standard Austin Seven

·     Original steering wheel with ignition advance/retard and mixture control

·     Steering column. steering box. steering arms. drag link and track rod assembly

·     Petrol tank. excellent. with petrol taps. brass cap and fuel pipe

·     Accelerator pedal and linkage

·     Clutch pedal

·     Brake pedal and brake cross shaft plus brake cables with adjusters

·     2 Front brake back plates with stub axles and brake shoes

·     4 Brake drums. very rusty

·     Rear number plate with original tail light

·     Inlet manifold. exhaust manifold. down pipe. unused silencer. tail pipe and clamps

·     Zenith 22FZB carburettor

·     Battery

·     Starter motor. turns ok. with housing

·     Dynamo with distributor and fan assembly. turns ok

·     2 Front wheel hubs. 2 rear wheel hubs. all with brass wheel nuts

 

·     Austin 7 Spare Parts. an original 63 page Austin catalogue with all mechanical parts illustrated plus part numbers. descriptions and quantities.   Plus a quantity of old parts catalogues from specialist suppliers.  Spare parts catalogue. handbook and photos on CD

 

Some new unused parts are included:

 

·     5 Unused tyres 3. 50 x 19 Avon Triple Duty Mk11

·     5 Unused Pirelli inner tubes

·     2 King pins with top bushes. lower bushes. thrust washers and grease caps

·     Set of 8 valves. valve guides and valve springs

·     2 Clutch linings with copper rivets

·     2 Rear spring pins with 4 bushes

·     Radiator cap

·     2 Radiator hoses

·     7 Exhaust manifold brass nuts

·     4 Exhaust flange bolts with brass nuts

·     Gasket set. not complete

·     Fan belt

·     Vacuum tubing

·     2 Alloy connecting links

Most standard Austin 7 parts are readily available from specialist spares suppliers or from eBay.

 

Please note that bonnet. doors. tail. wings etc. are not attached to the body but were put in position for photographs.

 

At some time in its life the car was fitted with a spare wheel mounted on the boot lid. wheel and mounting are now removed but are included.

Much of the original wiring is still in place.

 

A very rare rebuild project which will be a wonderful and collectable vintage sports car when restored.

This is not a home made special but it is a genuine piece of British motoring history.
