EXTERIOR
Meticulously hand beaten from sheets of aluminium the sweeping form of the Jaguar C-Type is a stunning piece of craftsmanship. Created as a homage to the Le Mans legend this recreation by Hawker Racing looks utterly superb; presented in a period correct shade of Pastel Green the simple lines of the C-Type remain undisturbed throughout, with the side exit exhaust perfectly tucked into the passenger side whilst up front the chrome grille and concealed central spotlight complete the Jaguars iconic facade.
Having built their reputation restoring WWII Hurricanes, Hawker are masters of their craft, and so it comes as no surprise that the attention to detail in this recreation is second to none. Using a genuine car as a reference point every panel was painstakingly recreated using traditional methods which becomes clear on close inspection, with key details such as purposely visible rivets showing through the solid paintwork just as they would have on 1950's the original.
INTERIOR
Primarily designed to race at Le Mans the interior of the C-Type is a rather unique configuration; the cabin features 2 seats but only a door on the drivers side, for quick entry during the standing start, as a passenger door would have added unnecessary weight and drag to the streamlined racer.
Once situated in the low slung bucket seats the lightweight focus of the C-Type becomes clear, with anything deemed non-essential removed the space is a spartan affair consisting of aluminium, rivets and Hardura insulation, which could almost be considered luxurious. Despite the rather minimal appointment the cockpit still feels special, with every single piece of trim a bespoke adaption or recreation to exactly match the specification of the original car, including the large 3-spoke steering wheel and speedometer which reads all the way up to a terrifying 160mph.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Powering this stunning recreation is a period correct 3.4L straight-6 and matching Moss 4-Speed manual gearbox, borrowed from a 1956 XK. Featuring SU Carburettors and some light fettling the engine sits in the same specification as early production cars with a slightly higher output thanks to more accurate modern tolerances, producing around 245bhp. On the road the car feels extremely lively, revving all the way out to 6,000 rpm the featherweight C-Type tips the scales less than 1,000kg.
Verifying the standard of work and mechanical accuracy of the recreation a FIA HTP (Historic Technical Passport) is provided with the car making it eligible for a host of historic motorsport events.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Neatly nestled beneath the C-Type's flowing arches the silver painted 16" wheels, with period correct aluminium spokes, and chrome knock-on hub caps complete the period style of this stunning car and present in fantastic condition, free from any signs or chips or fading. Matching Michelin Pilote X tyres adorn each corner, with good tread remaining all around.
HISTORY FILE
Built as a labour of love to commemorate Jaguar's iconic race car, this incredible project started as a conversation that formed into a 3 year running project to create an exact recreation C-Type that could be used and enjoyed without worrying about the 7 figure price-tag. After searching for some time for the right people to take on the challenging build the owner was put in touch with Hawker Racing, a subsidiary of Hawker Restorations who have been in business since 1987 and built a reputation as the worlds leading restorers of Hawker Hurricane Fighters and similar period aircrafts.
Using the base parts from a Jaguar XK for historical accuracy, as well as the added bonus of an existing historic registration (04/01/1956) Hawker and their small team of dedicated craftsmen meticulously constructed this incredible recreation using traditional techniques, with the added bonus of having access to a genuine C-Type to use as a reference for key details.
Work was completed on the car in early 2018, when the vehicle also gained a FIA HTP (Historic Technical Passport), which confirms the car conforms to 1953 period specification of a Jaguar C-Type and so is eligible for a host of historic hill climb and racing events.
Present with the car is the FIA HTP (Valid til 31/12/2027), selection of invoices, V5 and 2 keys.
