Bristol Cars have always held their own particular place in British motoring. Thanks to Tony Crook. they always rowed their own boat in terms of automotive design. Built for those who appreciated performance. individuality and exclusivity. their customers also needed deep pockets. In 1962 this car would have cost in the region of £5000.

This example was first registered on the 10th of April 1962. It was the first of the Bristols to accommodate a 5 litre V8 engine. mated to a Torque –flite. three speed automatic gearbox. 88 examples were sold. of which 15 remain known. The gearbox operates off a push button gear selector to the right of the steering wheel. which is a doddle to use. They were later outlawed as they were deemed potentially dangerous when meddled with by children!

The car is finished in Rolls Royce Velvet Green with grey leather upholstery.

Over the years a veritable fortune has been lavished upon it. For many years it was looked after by Bristol Cars themselves. in London. and latterly by Spencer Lane –Jones in Warminster. Bills in recent years add up to circa £30. 00.

The car. as it stands today. is an extremely good example. The huge alloy panels are super straight. The paintwork bears up to close scrutiny. The interior has been left original. It shows wear. as previous owners have chosen not to recover or reconnolise. I happen to like the feel of the interior. as I expect a Bristol owner would.

As a car to drive. the Bristol is a very comfortable Grand Tourer. The engine never feels stressed in any way. the gear change is smooth. and the uprated Coopercraft brakes ensure effective braking. I would personally uprate the steering to power assisted. but aside of that she is an absolute delight. The previous owner used the car regularly on runs from Devon to London.

The accompanying history of the car is detailed and extensive. Research from previous owners concludes that the mileage of 61. 00 is correct.

In conclusion. this Bristol represents 60's grand touring at its best. At the time you could have chosen an Aston or Alvis to do the same job. as indeed you could today. but the Bristol offers something different. It's a very refined. genteel. understated. gentleman's express in fabulous condition. I am a fan.
