1937 Hillman Magnificent Foursome Drophead Coupe3 Position Convertible
** NO RESERVE **
History: From the research I have done this car appears to be the only surviving example of a 1936 or 1937 Hillman Foursome Drophead Coupe. I was able to find a handful from 1939 to 1948 a few restored and some unrestored but none from the 36-37 series which is different from the rest. I can not be certain if it is a 1937 as the they are identical to the 1936 except for the location of the windshield wiper motor which seem to indicate that this is a 1937 and the VIN starts with 7. To make determining the year more difficult there are no left hand drive pictures available to compare them to. This car is a true barn find from Vancouver Island. It was sold from an estate and last registered with vintage plates in 1974. I have no other information on the history except that I found a tag that would seem to indicate that it was bought new in Victoria British Columbia an appears to have spent its entire life on the island. The car will be sold on a bill of sale.
Description: This car came from the factory as an export model left hand drive with a 3 position convertible top: closed. deVille (front half open. see pictures) and open. When fully open the "B" pillar folds with the top leaving no posts exposed. The car is obviously unrestored but appears to be complete. Not shown in the pictures are the front bucket seats and rear seat. front bumper and side trim are all included. The side windows and the gauges are in place. All I have noticed missing is the hub caps.
Reason for selling: I own a large collection of cars but lifestyle changes dictate selling off many of them.
Mechanical: When I got the car the engine was locked up. I pulled the plugs and soaked the cylinders and now the engine turns over. but it is still tight. I currently have it soaking more.  The brakes need to be gone over but are mechanical so it should be simple. The car rolls easily and steers well. The engine is complete. there are no indications of any power-train changes or modifications.
Body: The body is very decent. there is some rust at the bottoms of the doors and small amounts in other areas but no body panels need to be replaced. The bumpers are intact as are the windows. the trafficators (turn signals that pop out of the 1/4 panels are complete and move freely) and the doors open and close as they should. The floors and trunk floor are mostly wood but there is some rust on some bolt on panels in the floor. the fuel tank is in place. The grill is in good condition as are the headlight lenses. The frame appears to be good.
Interior: The interior is complete but rough and in need of a complete restoration. The wood dash is complete but also needs restoration. All knobs handles cranks and gauges are present. The car has a clock. heater and glove box door. The wood caps at the tops of the doors are in place and there is enough of the door panels left for a pattern.
Top: The three position top is complete with chrome Landau Bars and folds nicely. it will need new canvas.
Overall: This is likely the only one of its kind left. although its possible that another drophead may surface at some point in time. the likely hood of it being a left hand drive seems almost nonexistent.  This convertible is for the most part complete and in amazing condition for a car that is almost 80 years old. Because of its condition. size and simplicity the cost of restoration should be very reasonable. If you looking for an exceptionally rare convertible that won't cost more than your house to restore this may be the car for you. It is hard to restore a car and have it worth more completed than what was spent on it. This car is an exception. The VIN is 7063 the odometer reading is 86. 00
Photos: I have included a picture of a 1936 and a 1937 from brochures I found on the internet. I have also included old pictures of slightly newer models that share the same top to give you in Idea of the 3 positions.
Location: The car is located just outside of Salmon Arm. British Columbia. about 3 hours from the US border. If you are a buyer from outside of Canada I can help with importation as I am familiar with US and some overseas procedures for importation. I can in many cases help arrange a shipper. but this is time consuming so I will only try to get a quote for the winning bidder.
Payment: Cash in person or bank to bank wire transfer is acceptable. Payment must be received within 7 days of the close of the auction NO EXCEPTIONS. I can store the car at no charge for several months if needed.
Scammers: I've heard it all don't waste my time.

If you have less than 10 feedback  contact me before you bid so I can confirm that you are in fact a serious buyer or your bid will be canceled

Just curious if anyone has info . My dad has a 1936 Hillman Minx drophead coupe sitting in a barn and we’re trying to find some info to possibly sell . It’s in the us in Illinois and hasn’t been on the road in 30 years. :) but it’s 100% complete and solid . Just trying to figure out what to do with it .
