Hillman Imp Super for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.05) based on 105 votes

For sale is my Hillman Imp, which I've owned for 10 years. I've only covered a few hundred miles in that time and it's due to lack of use that I'm selling it.

As you'll see it's not a show car! It's more go than show. It's mechanically good, the shell is solid having had the rusty bits cut out, but the paint is not good! It's a very usable classic that you can enjoy without worrying about scratching the paintwork!

The good bits:

930cc engine with R17 cam, twin Stomberg carbs and electric fuel pump.

Front mounted radiator (from a Polo I believe)

Fiesta front discs

Avo adjustable ride height front shocks. Protech rear shocks with Montes all round.

Ally Cat Rallye Special 13x6 wheels with new Yokohama tyres

XR2 bucket seats which are supportive and very comfortable

Formula steering wheel

The shell is solid, but has had plenty of repairs over the years. I've had the rust cut out and new metal welded in on the arches, a section of sill, a rear lower corner and both sides where the front wing meets the upper body.

The bad bits:

Whilst a mechanic did the welding for me I chose not to have it painted at the same time. The plan was to put some temporary paint on before having a full respray. Well, the respray has never happened! So, all the sections above (along with a few other small spots) have been hand painted with coach paint, which doesn't look great. However, on the plus side you can see where the repairs have been done. I'm certainly not hiding anything with skilful body work! The one bit that does need a bit of welding is a spot just underneath the roof gutter. I've included a photo of the small holes where the rust has been removed. Currently it's got a bit of filler and has been painted to keep it watertight.

The clutch could do with bleeding and a couple of coolant hoses need replacing, but it is driving just fine having taken it out for a spin today.

Overall this is a very usable car which with some bodywork could be made to look as good as it goes. It's a lot of fun to drive. I will miss it, but it's probably time someone else put some miles on it.

Any questions and if you'd like to view the car just drop me a message.
