1971 Plymouth Barracuda Gran Coupe for sale
Current customer rating:
Up for sale is a 1971 Barracuda Gran Coupe 383 that I recently acquired with intentions to keep. but due to some more important circumstances. I likely will have to sell.
Although an original TX 9 triple black car. it is currently viper red (PPG single stage) with a black vinyl top and black interior.
I have not checked the transmission. but the other numbers (rad support. cowl. engine. dash. etc) match.
The original 2 bbl carb and intake are long gone. and the engine was rebuilt and is as powerful or more powerful than its larger big block brethren.
Receipts provided show that $6200 was spent to make the car run this excellent.
It has a 727 transmission and 8. 75” rear with a 3. 91 gear.
This car is an excellent driver as is. and it is at a place where you could either enjoy as is. restore as a Gran Coupe. or clone a ‘Cuda 383.
It has the overhead console. interior panels. woodgrain standard dash. leather seats. and tailpanel badge of a Gran Coupe. but it has the rally hood. pins and lanyards. and rear valance with cutouts of a ‘Cuda.
The car is also equipped with a center console. power brakes (disc in front). and dual chrome mirrors.
The factory power steering and AC have been removed from the car.
An electric fuel pump has been added and controlled by a toggle switch mounted to the lower dash.
The glass and weatherstripping are in good condition.
The grille and bumpers are in very good condition.
Most of the chrome is in good condition. and whatever is not perfect. is certainly in good driver condition.
It has 15” rally wheels and decent Dunlop radials on it.
The front seats have covers on them because they need reupholstering the rear seat back has one tear in it. and the rear bottom is in good condition.
There are no seat belts in the rear. and the front has the lap and should belts.
The dash has a cap on it and presents itself well.
Fender tag is present but no buildsheet was found in the car.
As mentioned before. this car is a great driver as it sits now and is very presentable.
The car has had some work and needs more to be perfect.
The body is solid. and a magnet will hold anywhere you put it along the sides. even down low.
There is some bondo in it. but it isn't a bondo buggy.
Front floorpans need to be professionally installed. and the right quarter could use a lower patch panel.
Right now. parts of the original floors on the left and right front have been cut out. and new pans were laid over the original ones.
You can hopefully see what I am talking about in the pictures.
If I keep the car. that'll be a winter project. but since hasn't and won't see rain in a long time. it isn't a big issue for me.
The front frame rails have been capped. and whoever did the job did an excellent job.
Frame connectors have been added as well.
The car has a lot of power. and these connectors were likely installed to reduce flexing of the unibody.
The rear floorpans. frame rails. and under the rear seat are in great condition.
The trunk is in mostly good condition. but there is one area that has had some minor repair work done that could stand to be done again.
Some metal patchwork has been done to the hood hinge area on both side and to a couple places on the firewall.
The hood has had some repair work done…I can only imagine the carb stud was a bit too long at some point. and someone must've shut the hood and damaged it.
Although old. there is some leftover paint for the car to do some touch-up with or get new paint matched to the color.
The repair looks good.
All of these areas should be visible in the provided pictures.
The lower hinge on the driver's door is worn. so the door sags slightly. but not too bad.
The lights work. but the right fender-mounted turn signal light comes on when you apply the brakes…not sure what's going on there.
Mechanically. the car is sound.
It runs and drives as good as any E-body out there…great feel cruising down the road.
The front end has been rebuilt and is tight.
The tuff-wheel steering wheel is not properly aligned when going straight down there road. and I haven't investigated too much into it.
There is one issue with it mechanically – there is a tooth broken on the flywheel. so if you try to start it when the starter is aligned with the broken tooth. you have to get a socket and ratchet and turn the motor at the crank about ½” .
It has happened to me twice out of the 20-30 times I've started it.
I have another flywheel. but I am not sure if it is the same size.
If you're looking for a '71 Barracuda to enjoy as a driver. this may be one of the best ones on the market that still retains much of its originality and is not on the high side of five figures.
I was extremely excited to buy this car. as I have known the owner and this car for a few years now.
Selling it was not my plan just a week ago.
Thanks for looking. and if you have any questions. feel free to ask.
If car sells. buyer will pay all shipping and handling fees.
I will obtain ownership and possession of the car until paid in full if car sells.

A little info on the rebuild: It was done at 116. 99 miles using Stealth aluminum heads from 440 Source along with KB 400 pistons.
At this time the original heads were reconditioned and resurfaced in case they are ever used again.
Engine was bored and honed . 040. and the crank was turned m. 010. r. 010.
The car has headers on it now. but the original exhaust manifolds are here.
Horn does not work.
