EXTERIOR
This delightful Super Imp is finished in factory correct Maroon (code 70). a colour specific to the Super model only. The paintwork boasts a fantastic deep gloss shine and perfect uniform finish. The polished appearance will gain much awe from onlookers who will marvel at just how straight this genuine little car is. A wonderfully clean underside features detailed inner arches and the cars structural perfection and unmolested nature is clear to see. All chrome trim is simply stunning and undamaged aside from very light pitting to the rear lamp bright bezels. visible only upon very close scrutiny. The engine compartment and front luggage space are both very clean ready for bonnet up showing! A handful of tiny light paint chips barely worthy of mention are visible. This car cannot fail to bring back fond memories and stir up nostalgia. and this example is a superb testament to Hillman's original contender for the Mini.
INTERIOR
The wonderment of this stunning car certainly continues once inside the cabin which is remarkably spacious for the size of vehicle. The interior is absolutely original and remains just as Hillman intended. The factory seats trimmed in Black vinyl are simply divine. commensurate with the cars amazing low miles. The matching door cards with trim up to glass level and garnish rails are perfect. as is the spotless headlining. The factory carpeting is clean but wear is visible in the footwells. Fantastic period touches include the ribbon style speedometer and toggle switches as well as the supplying dealer Croxton Motors Ltd plate attached to the nearside door card. All functions and controls operate perfectly but slight aging can be seen on the lettering instructions. The term ‘time warp' often open to interpretation is absolutely justified with this genuine unmolested example. An enthusiasts and collectors delight.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with the 875cc four cylinder overhead camshaft unit with extensive use of lightweight aluminium alloy die-castings. the rear engine positioning offers balanced weight distribution and immense fun handling characteristics. Developing 42bhp at 5000rpm and 55. 6Ib. ft torque at 2800rpm. performance is surprisingly spirited. The engine is wonderfully quiet and the four speed gearbox with synchromesh on all forward gears is light. effortless and very positive throughout the range.
WHEELS. TYRES & BRAKES
The original pressed steel wheels are finished in off white complimented by chrome centre caps and bright inner finishers. The centre caps are perfect and only light scratches can be seen on the finishers. Matching Camac NC80 155 R12 radial tyres have excellent tread remaining and the spare is still shod in the original Uniroyal crossply item! The Girling braking system incorporates 8in diameter drums and brings the car up to a straight and steady halt.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 9th February 1967 by Hillman Rootes Main Agent. Croxton Motors Ltd of Thetford. the first of just two keepers was a Miss Violet May Simons. This fantastic little Imp was used only very sparingly for light duties often consisting of driving the car to help herd her flock of sheep along the lane! In July 1999 the second keeper Mr Paul Rackham a renowned enthusiast and owner of one of the world's largest Massey Ferguson tractor collections purchased the vehicle and it has remained in his collection ever since. Invoices in the history file dated 1999 relate to a light restoration and professional detailing process commissioned by Mr Rackham in order to bring an already excellent example up to his exacting and very high standards.
The history file further consists of some previous MOT certificates and invoices as well as the original owner's handbook and even a Hillman Super Imp and Imp De Luxe sales brochure! A very rare opportunity to acquire surely one of the best surviving Imp's in existence. not to be missed.
MOT February 2016. HPI clear. Approved Used Car Check Certificate.
