Hi story

The introduction of the all new 1965 Chrysler line featured ads proclaiming “The most beautiful Chrysler ever built. Agreed?” The lineup was the first effort of a new to Chrysler designer. Elwood Engel. who had defected from Ford in 1961. He had designed the elegant 1961 Lincoln lines as well. The public must have agreed. as a record 224. 61 new Chryslers of all series rolled off the line at Jefferson assembly in Detroit. The Newport line came with a 2 barrel 383 engine. with a 4 barrel optional. backed by a 727 Torqueflite transmission. Power Steering and drum brakes were standard.

The Newport Town Sedan featured in this auction was in the hands of the original owners until early 1990's. I bought the car from the original owner's estate. The current mileage is 134. 08. About 30 k of which have been put on in my care. The car was equipped with the optional 383 4 barrel engine. A 400 engine from a 70's Chrysler was installed and the manifolds and distributor from the 383 used. This car benefits from the slightly larger displacement and hardened valve seats of the later engine. Also included are a Torqueflite automatic transmission. 2. 76 ratio open rear. Power steering and brakes. tinted glass. an AM radio now with an FM converter. It also has the Factory 15 inch Chrysler Sport wheels from a later car.

Condition

This Chrysler Newport is 100% original paint that still shines! It runs and drives great and is very powerful.

This has always been a nice garaged car! It holds great Oil pressure and runs cool. This car delivers 15-18 MPG highway on Regular gas. There are a few nicks and door dings in the finish and a scrape on the passenger rear door. but it is quite presentable. There is very minor rust in the lower rear quarters and the top of the drivers side front fender depicted in the photos. There are some dents in the rear bumper as well. It has a nice original interior. The original headliner has been sewed up near the back window. The engine compartment and trunk are in nice original condition. It has a homemade trunk carpet done by the original owners. The car is in excellent mechanical condition. I just put in a new Battery. exhaust system. radiator and windshield washer system. Everything works except the radio. The Heat and Defroster system works fine as well.
