numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts. but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example. all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description* VIN 1Z37L7S434749 The first digit. "1. quot; indicated the Chevrolet division of GM.   The "Z" is the series. Distributor Date Code 7C30 The "7" is the last digit of the calendar year. the "C" denotes March. and "30" is the thirtieth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on March 30. 1977.   This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine. The seventh digit. "0. quot; means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit. "3. quot; means it was intended for use in a manual transmission car such as this. Carburetor Date Code 1187 The firth three digits. "118. quot; indicate the 118th day of the year. The last digit. "7. quot; is the year in which the carburetor was produced. 1977.   So this carburetor was stamped on April 28. 1977. condition

Exterior

The bright red exterior is in nice driver condition. As one can see in the photos. the paint has a dazzling gloss and deep shine. The car exhibits good body panel fit overall for a C3 Corvette. Often Corvettes will have particularly chipped up front ends. this car does not and even the original front air dam is in good shape. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There is a small chip in the windshield. We decided to not replace the windshield since it was original to the car. but we would be glad to have the windshield replaced for $250 prior to delivery if the future owner so desires. There is some checking in the paint on the top surfaces of the car. which is visible in the photos. It is not very noticeable when standing five or ten feet back. but when right up to the car it is evident. The factory YJ8 aluminum wheels are in great shape with a nice finish. The tires are literally brand new with less than 20 miles on them. As one can see in the photos of the underside of the car. this Corvette has NO RUST ISSUES. The frame is totally solid with no rust in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield.

This Corvette came equipped with the V54 Luggage rack and roof panel carrier. which is in good shape with no major rust or pitting. It also still retains the chrome pieces and straps that attach to the luggage rack and hold the T-tops. It is exceptionally rare for these accessories to remain with the car over all these years.

Window Date Codes

Please note that the side glass and windshield on this car are date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of May 13. 1977 (J13). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

The Corvette looks just as good in person as it does in the photos

Interior

The Black interior of the Corvette is also in great original condition. The seats look just in person just as they do in the photos with no excessive wear. They are not worn through in the topically area where the driver gets in and out. Please note that these are the original seats. not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. The carpet is in nice condition for being original with no stains. rips. or holes. The dash and center console look fantastic with no splits. sun fading. or cracks. The door panels are in great condition for being original. The car has never been smoked in. there is no ash in the ashtray or aroma what so ever. The jack and jack handle are still present and stowed behind the passenger seat. Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this interior is a testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout it's life. Even very detailed items that are almost always broken or shabby are not on this car; details such as the finger pulls for the rear storage compartment and the fit of the center gauge cluster with the shifter console and down to the parking brake console.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This car seems to be in very good mechanical condition. We are not aware of any major work needed and everything on the car works. The car starts right away every time. runs well. and idles well. The car drives terrifically; it is tight on the road and at highway speeds. There are no strange noises or vibrations. The transmission shifts well. does not pop out of gear. and the clutch feels good. The car was recently serviced with new calipers so the brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This Corvette has plenty of power and is pretty fast. Also. the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos. The horn works as do all the exterior lights. all gauges (with the obvious exception of the clock). wipers. power windows. and blower for the heater on all speeds. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly with no binding. Also. the headlights go up correctly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete operation from both switches can be observed in the video below. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car. especially with the 4-speed and the T-tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall. this 1977 Corvette is in fantastic driver condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see. this car is very correct. There are photos below of the VIN stamps on the engine block and transmission. In our experience the 1977 model year draws a small premium over the other late 70's C3 Corvettes. It was the last year for the straight back window and "sugar scoop" roof treatment. which is generality regarded as more attractive than the bubble back window on the 1978+ Corvettes. 1977 also features the more desirable updated interior. and the newer style steering wheel replaced the Vega style used in 1976.

The originality. very low miles. and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and difficult to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
