1938 Austin Ruby Mk2 Deluxe. Originally bought by a chap in 1984 (bill of sale)as a retirement restoration to keep him occupied. adly this did not happen. The car stood in his garage for the next 20+ years or so then his son Richard decided to do the restoration. his he did for a number of years only managing to do a few hours now and then which he was limited to. having a young family and work to go to. In this time he took the body of the chassis. ee photo. nd carried out any repair work he thought necessary to the body. he chassis parts. teering. rakes etc were stripped off. hen both the body and chassis were sent of to be shot/sand blasted to bare metal. he chassis was painted in black chassis paint the body was sprayed with primer for protection until it was to be painted. The doors were in excellent condition. nly the passenger side bottom wood needed replacing this was done in Ash. The front wings were excellent only needing mild attention. he petrol tank was cleaned out and lined. Over the years. o spread the cost. ichards father and then Richard started buying parts they knew they would need to make this an excellent restoration. ll parts were new not second hand costing thousands of pounds as you can imagine these are. Two brand new back wings (how much would they be now if you could get them). wo new running boards and Austin rubbers. wo stainless steel bumpers and correct bolts. ing piping. Lighting. Richard who sold me the car came to the conclusion that given the limited time he could devote to the restoration he realised he would never get to finish it. o the car came to me. Now i took it on with sole intention as the original buyer. am 70 years old retired and it was something to keep me occupied. have completed a few restos over the years having been an "old car"owner since the 1960. and dont drive a modern car. When the car came to me it was just a bare body on the chassis with the engine just dropped in position for transport. he gearbox was seperate to it. o i took the engine out took the head off to check the pistons and bores both seemed very good. hen i checked the bottom end. ump of there was still oil in which i took as a good sign. gain everything seemed fine there. give them both a good clean then both the head and sump were refitted with new gaskets. s was the exhaust manifold and water inlet/outlets.   Richard had had the seats all done in Mulberry leather. had to make the door cards and door surround trimas these were. t done with the seats. ? the trimmer who did the job for Richard had retired so i had to sent a sample from under the seats to another trimmer. artrim in Chester to get a hide for the door cards and trim. he hide although still Mulberry Hide was a slight different in shade apparently when i asked about this it can differ slightly from hide supplier to hide supplier. his does not jump out at you. n fact anyone that was watching me do the resto. no one noticed. have put a photo up of the door card and seat to show what i mean. I had some new sunroof opening wood surround joiner made. I sent the car for a respray in the begining of October last year so still a new paint job. here was no fitments on the car when it went just the 2 doors so no masking to do and the paint went to all the parts that it doesnt when masking.   When it came back i started putting everything back on. wired it temporary to start the engine. suprisingly it only took about 5/6 revolutions then it started and sounded very good with no nasty noises or smoke. n old time Austin mechanic that was with me when it started and he did a compression test which he was pleased with the results. It had started having been turned over by the handle over the years. fter that i did a complete rewire fitted everything i had from the list of the parts above. nd did the headlining. nd everything seems as thought it has turned out good. here are dozens of photos been taken over the complete restoration right up until today. hese are available to the new buyer as with all the bills. t needs 2 door lock covers which i havent manged to get yet. 7 Workshop said they are hoping to get a supply in the very near future. When the car came to me there was no DVLA docum. ntation. ut it does have a 1968 Tax disc. n MOT from the same year also an old beige logbook so with the help of my car club i sent in the required paper work with copies of what i had and they reinstated its original registration. o now it has the V5c which is in my name. I have. t bothered paying for insurance as i knew the car would be going to a new owner all being well. have however today taken it for a short drive to see if everything is OK. ll gears changed very smoothly. o crunching i have adjusted the brakes but these will need doing again after a bit longer longer run as they bed in. lso any bolts to check on. lthough i dont think i need to tell anyone here how to suck eggs. Nothing else to say really except i am a genuine Ebayer with a 100% feedback. am not a dealer or trader just a genuine vintage/classic car person and driver. Any potentional bidder with less than 5 feedbacks please contact me with your contact details. his is to deter scammers which there a lot out there so no offence to the genuine bidders. Payment by cash or bank transfer. ome photo might look a bit Red but the car is Maroon. ny questions just ask. P/S i have put new oil in all round.
