Current customer rating:
I am selling my 1950 Pontiac Chieftan kustom. I will describe everything about the car to the best degree possible.
Body. The car is a has many body modifications. Starting from the front it has a 1950 Mercury grill mounted to look like a floating grill. The original grill surround has been welded to the body. The headlights are frenched. The hood top chrome has been removed and the original hood has been peaked. There is a frenched antennae on the driver side fender. At the rear of the hood there are scoops welded on. The sidepipes have welded and molded covers on the bottom of the fenders. The door handles are shaved. The fender skirts are steel and I belive they are foxcraft. The rear fenders have been extended and 1954 Lincoln tail lights are mounted.
The rear splashpan has been extended and shaped to fit. The trunk lid has been shaved of chrome except for the key. There is minimal rust. The worst area is in the trunk where there are 2 small rusted areas that have been treated but need to be fixed. See the pics for shots of the floor and inner rockers to see how rust free rest is.
Paint. The car is painted with a purple base and blue metalflake. The roof is a Chrysler silver. The visor was painted with the same silver then the lace was sprayed with aqua blue candy. The car has won a few best paint awards and even though it has a few chips in the paint it still shows very well.
Engine / drivetrain. It still has the original drivetrain. The engine is the original flathead straight 8. I just spent almost $5000 on having the engine rebuilt.
I have reciepts for parts totaling $ 2500 plus machine work totaling the rest. I have driven the car more then 500 miles since it was installed.
It runs like a sewing machine.
The transmission is the original hydramatic 4 speed automatic and works flawlessly. The rear end was rebuilt by the previous owner and looks to be in very good condition. I would drive the car more often but I just don't have the time.
Interior.
The dash is all original and still has the original paint. All the gauges worked. however. the oil pressure and temperature gauges were left unhooked after the engine was reinstalled. The fuel gauge stopped working recently but i dont know why. The speedometer and odometer work perfectly. The previous owner installed blue lucite knobs on all the controls.
The door panels were recovered by the previous owner and look good. The seats are only covered with a blue mexican blanket as can be seen in the pictures and they should be recovered. The carpet is cheap outdoor carpet installed by the previous owner. I installed a brand new never used before I got it 1973 model Pioneer 8-track radio underdash mounted unit and put speakers on the back seat.
I used to drive the car a lot but lately I just dont have the time anymore. I do trust the car on the highway.
It handles 65 mph very easy but I would suggest that the new owner have a better rear gearing installed to get the rpms down lower for highway speeds. It still has the original brakes and they work as well as can be expected. I know it would cost way more then what my reserve is to build a car to this level. I personally have over 17 K invested in this car and because I know what this car still needs the reserve is much lower then that. With only a little bit of work this car will be back to the show stopper that it was.
I have described everything as best as I can. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
