1989 Mercedes-Benz Unimog U1200 with a Truly rust free cab, not some painted black cover up like other Unimog's on Ebay. Look at the photos by the rockers and corners and bottom of doors! It is a u1200 model which is far more manageable than the larger trucks like the U1700, where the axles, brakes and wheels and other items are way over kill (and super Heavy) for any purpose of someone using it day to day. It has the desirable 3 way hydraulics, front and rear 2 speed PTO's and a air system. It has the exhaust stack with a floor operated engine brake along with plow lights with proper mountings. It has a very desirable 3 way heavy duty Tipper flat deck. Heated windshield (unsure of its operation) A pintle hitch in the rear along with tow hooks. I have had many many Unimogs and I just had to have this truck because the cab was practically perfect. It only has 555 hours on the OM366 Turbo Diesel engine which is more desirable that the OM352a. This truck comes with a clean NY title! Some not so greats, The tipper bed requires weight to return to the flat position. The drivetrain has difficulties transitioning from one gear to the next smoothly if you don't shift very slowly. It shifts Very easy and quickly because the syncros are sticking. I would assume you could free it up someway to make it work better. Again it shifts from gear to gear easily and normal feeling but if you shift too fast it will grind. The linkage could use an adjustment to make the shifting more proper. The forward and reverse is the same way, shifts very fast and smooth but if you go too fast, you will get a tiny grind. It is in 4wd as we speak and you can feel it as you turn tight corners. The differential lock lights operate as you turn through the selector switch and extinguish as you turn them off. The clutch safety switch is a little sticky and sometimes you have to push the pedal up and down to crank. There is slight rust only on the fenders. The front have slight on the rearward lower most portion and the rear fenders have rust in the rear position (see pics). Fenders are easily replaceable and I will furnish a NEW rear set if it is purchased with buy it now. Other than those few items, the truck is a very nice machine. Do not bid unless you are familiar with Unimog's and know they do not drive like a Honda Accord. Unimog's drive better than a farm tractor but don't expect perfection. Do not expect to drive this home to California, Do not ask me if I think it will be ok for a long trip. Expect to have transported or trailered. Please clear this with your husband, wife or significant other before you bid. Remember when you bid you are bidding to win and not bidding to come check it out after and test driving. I encourage you to come see it in person before committing. Feel free to call with any questions, Scott 516.456.0980. High bidder pays $500 Immediately at auction end, Cash Balance remaining at pickup.
