Overview

The Messerschmitt Company was temporally not allowed to produce aircrafts starting in 1952.   Fritz Fend was an aircraft engineer that came up with the idea to produce a small vehicle.   The KR 175 was the product of that.   In 1955 the KR175 was replaced by the KR200.   In 1956 Messerschmitt was allowed to start manufacturing airplanes again. so the right to make the car to FRM.   Thus making 1955 the only true year that Messerschmitt made the car.   Available here is a fantastic example of the 1955 KR200.

Exterior

Obviously the key exterior feature of the KR200 is the clear bubble top.   This bubble is in fantastic condition.   One small crack in the front left corner. but no major scratches or discoloration.   The side Plexiglas widows have some scratches around the knobs used to open them. but no cracks or discolorations.  There are a few paint nicks. but this car is meant to be used.   It presents very well.

Interior

Another unique feature of the Messerschmitt is the tandem seating.   The interior of this KR200 is complete and it great condition.   It has the proper Messerschmitt rubber floor mat. horn button. and gauges.   It is surprisingly very roomy and comfortable.

Mechanicals

The original 191cc Fichtel & Sachs two stroke engine.   It runs fantastic.   The KR200 had 4 forward speeds and 4 reverse speeds.   To get reverse you simply push the key in further when starting the car and it starts the motor in reverse rotation.   Thus given you the same gear ratios in reverse as you have in forward gears.   The gear shift lever had a secondary lever on it that when pulled put the car in neutral no matter what key you were in.   All this is fully operational on this car.   It is capable of the top speed of 56 MPH. but reportedly gets 86 mpg.   The brakes are cable operated.

Conclusion

The Micro car has become very popular over the past few years.   The Messerschmitt is the iconic Micro car.   This is a great example of the first year of the KR200 and the only year that it was not produced by FRM.   Rather if you are a collector or just want a fun little car. you will not be disappointed with this KR200.
