1971 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3. 5 Cabriolet

This 1971 Mercedes 280 SE 3. 5 cabriolet was beautifully restored about 5 years ago. It is a rust-free Georgia car. The floors. trunk pan. outer sills. radiator support. and the rear cross member are solid. The restoration included new black paint ( quality of the paint is 9 out of 10). The Cognac interior is original. New correct wool carpets. all the wood veneers were refinished. 90% of the chrome were replated. New windshield and gasket. all new weatherstripping. engine rebuilt ( 150 psi on all 8 cylinders ). rand new whitewall tires and hubcaps. detailed engine compartment. New set of fuel injection trigger points. rebuilt starter. alternator. radiator. polished valve covers. all new hoses. vacuum lines and belts. rand new fuel pump and more. The trunk is detailed with a new mat. This car runs and drives excellent. This car started its life as a coupe and was professionally converted to a convertible about 10 years ago. There were a couple of companies in Georgia that were making the conversions. What sets this car apart from the other inadequate conversions is that the top. frame. latches. and the box in the trunk that the top will fold in ( see photo) were taken from a real 280 SE 3. 5 Cabriolet. The previous owner had a real 3. 5 convertible that was wrecked in the front. The German craftsman who performed the conversion had removed a portion of the rear section including the box in the trunk and fit it to this car. This car is razor straight down the sides and has perfect shut lines. This car was converted so well that only way it can be distinguished from a real convertible is by checking the VIN. The convertible VIN starts with 111. 027 and the coupe starts with 111. 026. The doors open and close perfect. Even if the car is on the lift. the doors open and close perfect indicating no flex in the unibody. All reinforcements were done internally. Since the convertible top ( the original one off the cabriolet). frame. and latches were used. the top fits well. The side windows will fit well with the top frame when they are up. All lights. gauges. horn. etc. work. The dash lights in the gauges. the original radio does not work. All A/C compressor and hoses were taken off to detailed the engine compartment. The A/C fan works.

This is a Beautiful car that demands attention everywhere it goes and is a steal for less than half the price of what an original 280 SE Cabriolet goes for.
