1974 Jensen Interceptor MK III for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2) based on 580 votes

Hi. nbsp;

I am selling my 1974 Jensen Interceptor. It is a series 3 with the Chrysler 440 and torqueFlight transmission.

The reason for the sale is because I already have a second Jensen Interceptor that is a better daily driver and this one simply does not get the attention that it should.

It is an ideal candidate for bringing back to the state of a great daily driver or even show car again and is priced to sell as such.

I have tried to be as honest as I could about condition in the sections below and with the photos and video but do feel free to contact me about any

details I might have missed or if you or someone representing you would like to see or test drive it.

Paint and Body

The paint is the original White color that came with the car  per the Richard Calver. Jensen Databook.

I think it was resprayed about 20 years ago and has various dings and scratches.

There are sections on the left front wing and right rear wheel arch that could do

with some attention but the bodywork is generally straight and rust free.

The car as a whole would look much better with a respray

but you could get away with it as is for a while.

Rust.

The car overall is pretty good for it's age and has lived most of it's life in California.

It does have some rust. the main area I know of are two small holes in the footwells. surface rust on

the springs and a few small other area's under the car but nothing major or structural.

The sills seem pretty solid.

Brakes and Tires

The tires are pretty old and the left front does have a slow leak(Takes about 4 weeks to go down). The spare is still under the rear trunk.

Some of the wheels are in the original polished aluminum. some were coated by the previous owner with chrome and could do with the chrome removing.

All seem in straight and usable condition.

The brakes work fine and stop quickly.

The rear calipers were recently rebuilt with stainless steel pistons and the front brakes recently had the lines replaced with stainless steel braided lines.

The original jack comes with the car. The lug wrench is non original but the is one.

Steering and Suspension

The good news for the steering is that I had the steering rack fully rebuilt by KD Enterprises last year so there should be no rack issues. Power steering pump is good.

The shocks are ok. I never replaced them but seem to work fine.

The rear springs could do with a re-grease.

The ride is ok. but many of the bushings are very old and could do with replacing if I was to start driving this regularly.

Chrome

Most of the chrome is pretty decent looking in drivable. not show condition.

The exception is the front and rear bumpers. The previous owner had parking lot accidents  bending both rear and front bumpers.

I found replacements(You can have the originals as well if you like). the rear bumper is fine and about the same as the rest of the chrome. nbsp;

the front however could do with a re-chrome but looks fine from a few feet away.

Electrical

Amazingly for a car as complicated as the Jensen electrical was in it's day. almost everything works.

Power windows work. /p>

Town and Country horns. The switch works fine. one is air horn the other traditional)

Radio. Not a original learJet radio. but pretty good.

Electric Antena. /p>

Locking gas cap. /p>

Passenger side automatic door open.

Windscreen wipers.

Engine bay light

Gauges

All gauges work apart from the clock. although I never trust the gas gauge. /p>

The gauge for the speedo looks like it could do with lubricating the cable as it does jump.

Rubber

The main hood and rear window seals are pretty new and work fine. There are the odd window

a door seals that could do with replacing but still function.

Engine

The engine I believe is the original 440.

It does have the Bosch upgraded cooling fan replacement for the original puny Lucas fans.

It starts pretty well. but If I was to drive it regularly I would have the carb cleaned or possibly rebuilt. I would also replace all hoses.

Oil pressure runs generally about 60. which you can see in the video.

It revs happily and loudly as a 440 should.

Transmission

There are receipts from the previous owner for a full transmission rebuilt before I purchased the car and I have barley put any miles on it since then.

There is a very tiny judder as you put the car in reverse which I always thought could mean it could do with new engine or transmission mounts but I have never looked into it.

Interior

The interior is the best part of the car. The black leather is still in great condition with no rips or tears in the main seat panels.

One small part of the piping on the drivers seat could do with fixing to make perfect.

The original leather center console is in great condition. as is the headliner and top dash with zero cracks.

All switches are there and work but could do with re-lettering.

The air conditioning equipment is all still there and the compressor and motors all run. but I have never used it. and it could probably do with a recharge. /p>

The carpets are in good condition.

History and other things

A large previous owner details manual with all kinds of receipts and tidbits comes with the car. along with many copies of the now defunct White Lady magazine.

A service manual is also included.

Back 20 years ago one of the previous owners won some plaques at shows after the first renovation and they are included as well.

The car comes with a newish Noah fitted car cover. designed for the Jensen. as well as wing service covers and a front grill cover.
