1951 Siata Daina 1400 Gran Sport SL0208 Show Car for sale
Current customer rating:
1951 Siata Daina 1400 Gran Sport #SL 0208. engine SL 0264 B.
Earliest known Siata Daina 1400 Gran Sport. This is one of very few and rare early “A” cars. different than the "B". or majority of the cars built: engine is closer to front grill. hood opens from the front (hinges are in the back). different tail light and totally different gauges – 2 big ones and 1 small (as opposed to 4 same size gauges on “B” cars).
Estimates on A and B cars still in existence hover around 30 cars from around 100 ever built.
The engine currently in the car comes from a racecar. raced in Pebble Beach. Palm-Springs. Torrey Pines and Stockton in 1951. owned by John Edgar and driven by Bill Pollack. Jack Mc Afee and George Metzger (see attached).
Original SL 0264 B car still exists and it has a Corvette engine. I believe.
This Siata has gone through a period-correct “every nut-and-bolt” restoration.
Every part of it was either found or re-made according to an extensive and exhausting research over a period of five years. A few modifications and/or upgrades: under-dash (hidden from view) turn-signal toggle switch added for driving safety. a disconnect battery switch. chromed twin exhaust pipe tips. top of door pocket now has elastic inside (the original didn't and making it unusable) and Wilton wool carpeting as opposed to original rubber on floors.
All materials used have been upgraded as well: interior is made with top-of-the line supple leather instead of vinyl and convertible top is Heartz cloth instead of inexpensive vinyl.
All upgrades done tastefully and period-correct. The car is also equipped with a 5-speed original Siata transmission taken from a 1951 Siata Daina .
5-speed transmissions were available at the time as an option (I have a period brochure) to replace the original 4-speed. which was adapted from a column-shift Fiat 1400 Sedan.
The 5 th gear comes very handy when driving on Freeways or above 45 miles/hour. This car was taken to some local shows - French-Italian in Woodley Park. Los Angeles. Palm Desert. Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills and San Marino. Pasadena. winning first in its class every time! It was also displayed at the latest Rodeo Drive Concours in Beverly Hills.
The Siata was driven to every concours (35 miles each way to San Marino) and was driven at 60 miles per hour on the freeway with no problems. Of course it will need more driving than 250 miles to be completely sorted out. It looks fantastic. it could qualify for any and every major car event and councours anywhere in the world and make its new owner proud.
A few years ago a restored Siata GS 1400 sold at auction for around U$D 200 K and a few months ago another restored car sold for around U$D 300 K (please see documentation below).
A blue-chip investment due to its rarity and beauty. Please note that its big brother. the 8 V 208 is trading hands at around U$D 1 M.
