1967 Mercury Cougar GT Package for sale
Current customer rating:
Had the car since 1980. Was fully restored about 5 years ago inside and out including engine and drive train. I only put a little over 1000 miles on it. I really can't drive it comfortably anymore. This is a rare car built in Philadelphia Pa. Only 2. 53 of these cars were built that year. The option package that makes it that rare is :It is an XR-7 model. having upgraded trim interior and dash / console option. The GT option has the high performance 390 4 V GT heads. 4 speed close ratio transmission. posi rear. In the 80's when I started the restoration. the 4 piston Kelsey Hayes front disk brakes were troublesome. so I converted the front to a 69 Mustang / Cougar brake system. with proportioning valve. T he car hasn't
been registered
for 2 years. however it has been run and locally driven. and kept on a battery tender.
Serious bidders are welcomed to see the car in person. you will notbe dissapointed

Sorry for the mistake. This is a rare car built in Philadelphia Pa. Only 2. 53 of these cars were built that year.
What I meant yo say was the car was originally from Philadelphia. The F in the second character after 7 denotes the car was built in Dearborn.

I have been getting questions about the car. but they were not getting published. My fault. sorry. I need to check the box at the bottom of the response to get it published. I will do that from now on. however just adding a little more info from the questions received so far.
Before I got the car. it had already spent 10 years in the North East. There were signs of previous rust repair. I completely dismantled the car and cut and replaced a lot of metal. Floors. trunk. engine compartment. rear quarters. and doors. The rockers and torq box was intact. I'm not a professional welder. but there were numerous complements on how the metal was ground straight after gas welding. Everything that could be disassembled was either repaired or replaced. I have two 3" notebook binders with manual. spec sheets. measurements. calculations and receipts.
The block and head machine work was done by a professional. including the final honing with the hypereutectic pistons. I assembled and measured all components to specs. I equalized and cc ed the chambers and used that value to calculate the compression ratio. I tried to keep the compression ratio below 10:1. and the car is very streetable. It is cammed up a bit. but still keeps a lopey idle at 650 RPM. The heads were ported. and the intake and exhaust manifolds were matched to the heads. I bought a trans rebuild kit from Dan Williams and did the work myself. I also blue printed the gears. and there is a big difference in how smooth the shifting is. I did the same thing to the steering box. I had the rear done by a professional.
The body work and paint was done by a professional. I did not keep receipts at that point on.
I wanted to add additional pictures. however. I am limited to 24. I could only add one. and that gives a view of the engine before it was closed up.
The radio is an AM 8 Track. If the ash tray is opened. there is a 3 mm input jack to connect external music. There is a switch under the dash to switch between AM 8 Track or your device. I added kick panel front speakers. two rear speakers. and a sub-woofer (can be seen in the trunk picture).
