1972 AUSTIN MINI 2 SEATER TRACK DAY CAR WITH 4AGE MR2 REAR ENGINE VERY FAST Z for sale
Current customer rating:
Hi and welcome to the Auction of my 1972 Mini track day car.
It can be made road legal by having an MOT put on it which I just dont have time to do right now. it had one when I bought it and I used it for 9 months on the road (only occasionally as its very very track focused) and the TAX is free becuase of the date of registration it falls into the historic tax bracket.
All the log book etc has been done correctly with the MR 2 engine being advised to DVLA so the log book reflects this to keep it all legal.
I have to say it is very track focused there are no luxuries in this car including heaters and winding windows or door locks. if its not needed it has been junked. its not the prettiest cars inside but it is functional and if you want to run rings round bigger more powerful cars at shorter trickier circuits this will do it with ease as it sits very very wide with MX 5 suspension (standard rears coil overs front) and very low and disc brakes all round (MGBRV 8 front. MR 2 rear) so stops and handles as well as it goes and looks.
Basically a solid rust free 1972 Mini was used as the base after being found in a barn with little milage on it.
The rear floor was then removed and a space frame fabricated to take the 4 AGE twin cam 16 v motor from an MR 2 along with the gearbox and drive shafts and hubs and rear disc brakes with cable operated handbrake (has to be a cable for the MOT).
A checker plate firewall was then fitted between the drivers area and the engine (personally if I was keeping it I would take that out (very heavy) and put a thin sheet aluminium half height firewall in with a carbon engine cover as this would save a lot of weight and lower the centre of gravity further and it would look much neater and better rear view.
The MR 2 seats have been used (these weight 35 kilos the pair. I know as I weighed them as I also have an MK 1 MR 2 and considered swapping to lighter seats in that) even cheaper bucket seats are only about 9 kilos each so nearly half the weight so a cheap way to save a substantial amount of weight.
Fitted with Securicon harnesses.
Wheels fitted with Yokahama A 539 tyres - Awesome tyres on 13" wheels and 235 wide (very very very grippy).
So to summarise the spec:
1972 Mini (tax exempt)
4 AGE MR 2 Twin cam 16 v engine producing 125 bhp with a Kawasaki ZX 12 modified end can (sounds good but not stupid loud and below track noise levels)
MGBRV 8 front disc brakes and calipers
MR 2 rear disc brakes and calipers wiht original cable handbrake (MR 2 system) to keep it MOT friendly
13" weller white steel wheels with Yokahama A 539 tyres done about 400 road miles and one track day at castle coombe
Mazda MX 5 coilover front suspension (upgrade not standard MX 5)
Mazda MX 5 standard rear shocks and springs with modified top hat for longer bolts to make fitting easier
Very very lightweight and wide.
Space frame extends into the cabin to form a full roll cage with low side bars (easier to get in and out)
Fire extinguisher in the passanger foot well
Foam filled racing fuel cell underneath the flip front (6 fastners and the whole front comes off complete with lights (these are on a trailer connection so one plug does all)
MR 2 clocks and switchgear (dash could do with a lot of tidying as all been fitted into checker plate (ugly and heavy).
All windows apart from windscreen removed and replaced with polycarbonate windows. rear window comes out with about 20 screws for access to the engine.
4 wipac spotlights (builder planned on doing tarmac stage rallies)
Fibreglass rear boot lid comes off with 2 clip fasteners
Does not come with MOT or tax as I just dont have time to get it to an MOT station but dont think it will need much.
Always been garaged.
Spares included:
Spare Toyota 5 speed gearbox
Spare compelte rear shock with spring odified for the MR 2 hub.
Spare rear spring (rusty but nothing a blast and powder coat wouldnt sort)
Spare bare cylinder head (ideal for porting and polishing which the 4 AGE does respond well to)
Brand new set of ignition leads.
Any questions please ask becuase if you bid and win you buy at the price the auction ends at not the price you think you want to pay when you collect. winning an auction is alegal binding contract even if your daft enough to leave your ebay account open while your dog or 3 month old toddler bids on things for you.
This is a track focused car. it is not suited to every day use as it has no heaters or door locks and is a very very harsh ride on the road (perfect on the track though).
It is very quick as it is very light. dont forget this engine powers the Toyota MR 2 MK 1. AE 82 (I think) AE 86 (we all know how well they go) and the AE 92 and all of these are quick cars and easily weigh twice the weight of this mini.
Also please understand this is a track/race car its not a pretty show car it is built for a purpose and as such there are the odd battle scars here and there with some crazing to the bodywork and a small amount of damage the size of a 50 p coin to one of the wings.
If its a mint z cars mini you want you will be paying three times this amount so please bear this in mind if thinking of bidding or buying.
Why am I selling I hear you ask? well I have owned it for six years and only managed one track day in it. long hours at work. family with three kids a dog and a motorbike and a mountain bike - need I say more? Would much ratehr it went to someone with time to use it properly and make it into the car it could be with a few interior mods it would be perfect.
usual rules apply you bid and win you buy. payment is in cash only I will not accept paypal for this amount of money and no bankers drafts or cheques (yes I know bankers drafts are as safe as money but if your going to the hassle of getting a draft just get the cash. simples.
Good luck and dont forget any questions please before the auction ends.
