Hi I have a very rare 1957 Austin A55 Cambridge (as seen in pictures)The car was listed a couple of months ago for 5500 with a siezed engine and was sold however the buyer left a deposit and could not come up with the rest of the cashThe cars engine has now been replaced hence the increase in value . #WINNING ( for you that is )The engine we replaced is exactly the same as the original Austin 1500 only it runs!only problem is the fuel pump which can be repaired or replaced with an electric fuel pump (retail 50 dollars) but unfortunately after replacing the engine I cant afford to spend any more money or time on this car If your unfirmiliar with this car heres a little info on itA couple of years ago I bought the car off a guy in South Australia who had it since new then parked it in his barn where it sat for 10 years untill I found itI brought it back to Sydney and me and my father a licenced panel beater spray painter with over 40 years experience restoring cars began to restore this carThe following is a list of work we have done to this carremoved all rust and gave a full respray of the car (although there was hardly any rust in her) and fish oiled interiorrestored the original brakeshad the font and back seats professionally reupholstered in white leatherrecarpeted the floorthe petrol tank was repaired and relined with a tank sealent the front windscreen rubber was replacedall the chrome was polishedthe car has a CSA set of 16 inch wheels which look great on this car but it also comes with the orginal unrestored wheels and hubcabsthe car also comes with a spare Austin 1500 engine some other spare parts and I can also supply the siezed original engine (if thats what your into)

In January 1957. the A55 Cambridge was introduced to replace the A50 model. It used the same 1. 5 L B-Series engine as its predecessor. though with a higher compression ratio: 51 hp (38 kW) at 4250 rpm was now available. [10]

The Cambridge had been restyled somewhat and now had a larger boot and much larger rear window. The car was also lowered by fitting 13 in (330 mm) road wheels which were smaller than those on the A50 but the overall gearing remained the same by changing the rear axle ratio. Two tone paint was an option.

Just over 150. 00 were produced when it was replaced by a new Pininfarina-designed A55 Cambridge for 1959.

Van and pick-up versions based on the pre-"Farina" A55 were introduced in 1957. and remained in production until 1973. [11] From 1962 they were fitted with the 1622cc engine and renamed A60. fitted with a wider grille never seen on the Cambridge car. and also offered under the Morris 1/2 ton name. [11] In their final years the van and pick-up were all designated "Morris". following a decision to remove the Austin badge from British Leyland commercial vehicles.

A de luxe A55 with manumatic transmission was tested by The Motor magazine in 1957 had a top speed of 77. 1 mph (124. 1 km/h) and could accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 27. 0 seconds. A fuel consumption of 31. 6 miles per imperial gallon (8. 94 L/100 km; 26. 3 mpg-US) was recorded. The test car cost £870 including taxes of £291. [10]

hows the fuel consumption that more economical than a vw golf maybe I should keep this car. na its gotta go buy now or make an offer 0427366343 regards Steve

Is the Austin A55 still available

from Paul, dated 06 april 2014
Hi Steve,
Looks like great work you've done on the A55. Can you give me a shot of the engine bay with the newly acquired motor installed? Are the external badges also available? What are the stud holes like on the original wheel rims?
many thanks,
Paul
