1933 Wolseley Hornet Special. This very rare and beautiful Hornet was supplied new on 4 th August 1933 and still retains its original registration number and original log book. The Wolseley Hornet and later the Hornet Special with Swallow bodies were a milestone in Swallow history. These were the first true sports cars that William Lyons of Swallow had offered and were also his first six cylinder cars. 206 Hornet Specials were bodied by Swallow. This is one of the last cars bodied by Swallow (later to become Jaguar Cars) before the company changed its name to SS Cars Ltd. It has a straight six engine. 1271 cc. four speed gearbox with no syncromesh and a top speed of 75 mph. Advertised when new as "a chassis which the connoisseur will especially appreciate" the specification included: Twin carburetters. Electric petrol lift. Special exhaust system. no back pressure. Oil cooling. Special oil filtering. Extra large brake drums. Hardy-Spicer joints to propellor shaft. Restored in the nineties this car still presents in super condition and has been a regular at many shows and rallies. Also with the Wolseley is probably the most detailed journal we have ever seen with a fabulous handwritten description of work carried out over many years with exquisite illustrations. Driving extremely well and ready for use this Hornet would take pride of place in any collection. A fresh MOT will be applied before sale.
