1966 Vanden Plas Princess 4 Litre R Very Rare Rolls Royce Engine Aust Delivered in VIC

This 1966 Vanden Plas Princess 4 LITRE R Sedan is a very rare and collectable car and it is with great regret I need to part with it due to storage space issues. It is an Australian delivered vehicle. with vehicle dealers plate affixed as by Lancaster Motors Pty. Ltd. of William Street Sydney. under the bonnet.
The car is in original condition and 100% complete. the body is completely rust free but the paintwork does need some attention. there are some crows feet in a few spots. a good hand polish will do wonders and bring the car right up.
The car has a 3 speed Borg Warner model 8 automatic transmission. power steering and genuine factory fitted radio.

Interior is complete and in good condition considering its age with some minor mainly stitching upholstery repairs to the drivers seat only to bring it back up to a very good standard. The rear seats are in outstanding condition with little use.
The Vanden plas is running a little rough due to sitting for a long period of time and would benefit from a new battery. tune up and a service due to this factor.
Fitted with original push button radio. spare wheel. jack etc is in the boot. chromework. hubcaps and wheel trims are there and in good condition
12. 18 miles on the odometer possibly been around once I'd say. All panels are straight and completely rust free with excellent gaps between doors and panels. Doors close solidly as they should.

The Vanden Plas was a collaboration between Rolls-Royce and BMC (British

Motor Corporation). the Vanden Plas 4-Litre R was a high

spec luxury saloon boasting power steering. fully reclining Connolly leather

seats . walnut veneer dash. picnic tables and other luxury

appointments.

But perhaps its best feature was the motor. an all-alloy

seven-bearing Rolls Royce straignt six that gave the car

exceptional performance for the time.

Both companies were quick to point out that the Vanden

Plas 4 Litre R was not competing with Rolls Royce. but

rather an attempt to combine the experience of both companies

in one product.

Although the Vanden Plas 4 Litre R was the cheapest car

Rolls Royce had been associated with (being the only mass-produced

car fitted with a Rolls engine). their strict quality

on engine assembly was never compromised.

Testament to this is the alarmingly quiet engine - even

by todays standards - and the ability for the FB 60 motor

to clock up 200. 00 miles between overhauls.

Fitted with heavy-duty front shocks. angled telescopic

dampers at the rear for lateral stability and optional

'Selectaride' self-levelling suspension the ride of the

car was quite simply superb.

The brake circuit featured an inertia pressure limiting

device to reduce the risk of rear wheel lock-up. and a

new hypoid rear axle allowed for the extra torque of the

Rolls Royce engine - with both improvements providing

a very quiet ride.

About 6. 55 were built from start of production in 1964 until 1968. It was the only mass-produced civilian vehicle from another manufacturer ever to use a Rolls-Royce engine.
