Volkswagen Kombi  “Barn Find”  - 1960 Split Screen Panel

In storage for over 30 years this Bus is in remarkable original condition for its age.  It is clean. straight and virtually rust free. The term “usual Kombi rust issues” just doesn't apply here. Having been in the outback since new. a warm dry climate has ensured the ravages of rust have been avoided almost completely.

Honest and unmolested it stands proudly on decades old cross ply tyres that still hold air. Everywhere you look it is like stepping back in time but with no nasty surprises. Inside the bus is beautifully preserved. original and complete. Cabin and cargo floors have no rust holes.  What you see in the pics is mostly dust and dirt and some minor surface rust. It has to be seen to be believed!

Rumoured to have travelled a genuine 49. 45 miles. it is amazingly intact.   The lack of play in the steering box. the excellent condition of the rubber cabin floor mat and the general appearance and condition of components everywhere suggest that this rumour could in fact be true. The body work is dead straight and with the exception of some dents to the nose and a previous paint repair to the left hand side rear quarter. it appears to be free of any. dents. panel damage or prior collisions.

This bus comes  with a host of Original Intact Features including  Headlights. dash & interior complete with all switches & controls. horn button. horn. drivers sun visor. wipers. fuel cap. fuel tank. semaphores. floor mat. complete working  door hardware. front and rear bumpers. seats. span >  spare cylinder heads and tinware plus. span >  even the original jack and tool bag! All that is missing is the engine. gearbox and left hand rear tail light assembly.

BODY: The only rust requiring repair is in the RHS lower sill outer skin (see pic) and the battery tray. There is no evidence of rust in the structural part of the sill behind the skin or any other structural rust anywhere else for that matter.   Sunburn and minor surface rust is present in places but nothing that requires cutting out.  There is a small split in the metal of approx. 50mm long thatcan be found on the RHS front door sill.   Some new glass will be required for the rear tailgate and sliding glass for LHS passenger door.  Lastly the top door hinge on the LHS passenger door has torn away from the door and will need to re- welded.   And that's about it for the bad news folks!

This is a solid bus that you could have finished and back on the road for way less money and time than what you might spend trying to bring something else back to life.  As a brilliant base for a full resto or by preserving the amazing patina to create the “rat ride deluxe”. this is an awesome place to start.

Inspections are welcome and detailed pics of anything you would like to see are available on request. Its hard to tell the whole story with just 12 photos!
