ORIGINAL AND UNTOUCHED 1970 CLASSIC VW BEETLE 1300 IN CLEMENTINE ORANGE for sale
Current customer rating: (521 votes ) based onHello and welcome to this auction for a 1970 VW Beetle 1300 in lovely original Clementine Orange. As you can see from the pictures this car is in completely original condition. It was owned by a local chap who purchased it in 2004. He used it sparingly for a few years and one evening when putting it in the garage he drove it into the ride on lawnmower parked at the back. This bent the front bumper and caused some very slight damage to the wing and driver's door. He didn't use the car again and it sat there until 3 weeks ago when I was contacted by his widow to ask if I would be interested in purchasing it. I was immediately struck by how original and untouched the car was and by just how solid it is. A deal was struck and the car was moved to our workshop for a quick recommission. The car now runs and drives well and after having the rear brakes rebuilt now has 12 months MOT and is now available via eBay auction. Please read below for more details:
Engine
Standard 1. 3 air-cooled flat four engine starts well from cold (takes a couple of turns when warm) and runs well. The engine is completely original and still has the original distributer. I have checked the engine number and it is the original engine that the car left the factory with. Very rare in an air-cooled VW these days. We've had our tuner guy cast his eye over it and he has set up the carb and the timing. He has advised that the car would benefit from a service including new points and condenser. There is some vibration through the car from the engine so new mounts will probably be in order. The engine is starting to show some signs of wear and tear which is not surprising after 46 years. There is end float in the crankshaft and the oil light flickers when at idle (goes off as soon as driving along). The generator is not charging the battery and appears to need replacement. The mileage is reading 1800 miles. I'm guessing that the car has been round the clock and it has probably done 101800 miles. There is old MOT's showing that there was 10 miles showing on the clock in 1996 so the car has seen next to no use in the last 20 years. The gear change is one of the best I've come across on an air-cooled. It is precise and tight and the car changes gear smoothly and without issue.
Bodywork
As you can see from the pictures the bodywork on this Beetle is in excellent condition for a 46 year old car. It has obviously been resprayed at some time in the past but the car is certainly not hiding anything. The main thing with this car is just how solid it is. I've had a good look underneath (and have included some pictures) and the car has only had one piece of welding which is a small repair to the front beam support. The floor is in fantastic condition and the heater channels. inner wings. wings and arches are all solid. The paintwork itself is surprisingly dent free but there are the odd scratch/mark and a few bubbles coming through here and there. These really are nothing for a 46 year old car. As mentioned earlier the car was parked up in 2008 after the owner bumped it into his ride on mower. Rather than cover up the damage we have left it as it is so the new owner can see it exactly. The front driver's side bumper bracket is bent and the bumper has bent slightly into the arch. There is a slight crease in the arch and in the wing where the a-pillar is. On the door at the hinges the paint has cracked and come away. This damage is only very slight and could be sorted in just a couple of hours for minimal spend. Normally on a 46 year old car I wouldn't even mention it but as the car is so good everywhere else it would make sense for the new owner to get that bit tidied up. Overall for its age the body is great and the new owner will not be disappointed on this front. You can see by looking at the car just how genuine and original it is.
Interior
The interior is again excellent for a car of this age and is in original untouched condition (right down to the original supplying dealer sticker on the dash). The dash. carpets. headliner and doorcards are all in very good condition. The driver's seat has some wear to it on the base but this is only noticeable when you lift the backrest forward to gain access to the rear. The other seats are all excellent. All the knobs and switches still work perfectly as does the lovely retro horn push on the steering wheel.
Exterior
The exterior is as it left the factory featuring the original chrome 1300 bumpers and chrome centre caps on the wheels. The wheels still have old style radial 155R15 tyres fitted. Although these have loads of tread and passed an MOT they are old and the new owner may wish to update them.
Service History.
Unfortunately there was not a lot of history came with the car. There are a couple of old service bills and a handful of old MOT certificates. The oldest of these is from 1996.
Summary.
In summary this is a lovely Beetle 1300 that is in rare original condition. It's not a show winner and will need a few jobs going forward but it runs. drives and has 12 Months MOT. That means it's ready to be enjoyed straight away and any bits of jobs can be done along the way.

Comments and questions to the seller:
from Eric S Cook, dated 27 january 2020Leave it here please, it's cool to see it. I bought this exact car when I was about 17, same color, garage kept, only 16 k original miles, with a back seat that had never been sat in. The kicker is I paid the lady 2350.00 USD though. It was like having a brand new car, but it was born the same year as me. My vanity plate was VDubbaU. I hope that you enjoy yours as much as I enjoyed mine. It's a dope whip for sure. Much love!!
