1980 Land Rover Series III 109' Ex-Mo D 200 Tdi
For Sale is my 1980 Land Rover Series III. The Land Rover was in the Military from 1980 till 2003. It's got a current Mo T till mid October and is perfectly usable.
Engine & Gearbox:The Land Rover is fitted with a Discovery 200 Tdi engine which starts first touch and runs well [Was on around 120. 00]The original gearbox is still in place and selects well with the added benefit of overdrive in 3 rd & 4 th. The transmission overall is quite good for an old Land Rover. It's not going to win many races but it certainly has great torque and nearly double the original HP.
Bodywork & Chassis:The Bodywork is standard hand painted Ex-Mo D Green & Black. Flaking in places and very genuine. Most panels are actually quite straight with the original radio Masts still in place [Aerials included]The Chassis is good. It won't need any welding and it's covered in Army Wax-Oyl. The Bulkhead is quite good however the Drivers bottom door hinge area has some rot.
Interior:The Landy has the standard Series 3 three front seats with Belts and two bench seats in the back with belts so it will seat 7 people. There is the usual military dash with the central light/convoy switch gear. Working heater. which if you know these old series is a bonus!The roof is a full hood set with a very good frame however there are a few tears in the canvas which could be easily repaired.
Overall this is a good usable Series 3 Land Rover with the added benefit of a reliable diesel engine. The 200 Tdi engine is arguably the best engine to ever be fitted to a Land Rover from standard and is an ideal conversion over the original petrol engine. The Land Rover manages an average of 30 mpg and will cruise at motorway speeds.
Any inspection welcome but please don't come expecting a comfortable new Defender these old Series vehicles are characterful to drive.
