VW GT Beetle - Custom Rat 1973 (Tax Exempt)

My GT Beetle Rat is up for sale to fund a new project.

This is a Rat Beetle. so perfect paint and a lovely original interior it doesn't have.

But what this Beetle does have is; a solid body & panels. lowered suspension. great mechanicals with a 1641cc engine & rare GT gearbox. and does not require any welding.

It has 12 months MOT with no advisories. due August 2017.

Recorded mileage is 26800 and confirmed on previous MOTs. however. realistically I suspect the speedometer has been replaced at some point previous to my ownership so I cannot guarantee the true mileage. In 2006 the MOT states mileage of 7163.

The original colour was orange. personally I hated it hence the transformation to a Rat style Beetle in Matt Black (V5 has been updated)

It has been painted matt black with a polyurethane matt top coat to seal and has ROAD RAT stencilled along the doors and across the deck lid together with a couple of large Rust Eze novelty graphics. if this is not to your taste you can always remove/repaint/restyle to a Cal look or even bring back to original condition with the multitude of low cost parts that are readily available.

Anyway. here is the spec;

·       Adjustable front axle with new bushes and ball joints

·       Dropped spindles with the GT disc brakes

·       Rear lowered by 2 splines

·       7 inch banded rear wheels with excellent tyres (Nexen 185/55/15)

·       Standard front wheels with excellent tyres (Nexen 145/65/15)

·       GT style steering wheel

·       Original VW GT gear lever

·       Engine rebuilt and upgraded to 1641cc Dual Port (prior to my ownership)

     Twin Weber 34 ICT Carbs

     Adjustable push rod tubes

·       All tin ware solid and painted black Hammerite

·       Electronic ignition

·       New fuel pump

·       EMPi GT exhaust silencer with shortened tailpipes to take exhaust stacks

·       Custom made stainless exhaust stacks (these are removable)

·       GT gearbox (better final ratio over standard box)

·       1967 Deck lid to give the old school look

·       New door / rear quarter cards

·       New battery

·       Original seats which have been recovered

Also comes with the following items/spares which are not currently fitted;

·       Stainless sill covers

·       Stainless bonnet/side trim with fixings

·       Door mirrors

·       Running boards

·       Spare Brand New J tubes

·       Spare voltage regulator

·       Spare door card fixing clips

What it doesn't have;

Carpets – It's a Rat. so for me a bare floor is the order of the day

Heater – I only use the car during summer so not an issue for me

Radio – Too busy listening to the flat four burbling through the stacks

Door seals – Old ones were knackered so removed them

Front seat plastic side trims – Too expensive to buy

Front and rear bumpers – didn't have any when I bought it a year ago

So. if you are looking for a fun car that is different. has a great stance and attracts plenty of attention where ever it goes. then this is certainly it. especially with the twin 2. 5 inch exhaust stacks which give a great throaty sound – Very different!

Engine starts first time with 4 prepumps on the accelerator (No choke on these twin carbs) and drives very nicely even though it has been lowered. but I have to say it is not speed bump friendly.

This is a 43 year old car and classed as a Historic vehicle so no road tax required.
