JEREMY CLARKSON… “IT'S AND INCREADIBLY RARE CAR”
RICHARD HAMMOND… “IT MAKES THEM (FUEGO TURBO'S) REALLY SPECIAL”
This amazing Renault was supplied new to Renault UK LTD and registered on the 7th august 1986. and we were told it was used for just under a year for Renault promotional and press activities. On15th July 1987 it was sold to its one registered private lady keeper Mrs Caroline M****. She kept the car at her private residence in London and used the car sparingly as we were told it was a second ‘fun' car and did not do the usual shopping and supermarket runs. She kept the car on the road until 2003 where she garaged it and stopped driving due to health reasons.
We bought the car with the intention of adding it to our investment portfolio and keeping the car in our secure premises. Due to a reshuffling of our cars we have decided to part with our stunning Fuego Turbo so someone else can enjoy her. It is very unlikely there will be another 1 private owner Fuego Turbo with only 42. 86 miles in the pre-requisite trademark red in stunning condition like this one. With some examples of 1980's hot hatches and fast coupes hitting the £30. 00 mark it will not be long before examples like this one start to command eye watering figures. It wasn't that long ago we were all scrapping rusty mark 1 escorts; the best examples can now achieve figures of over £100. 00!
When buying a classic car we look for several key characteristics.
1) Rarity – well this is about as rare as they come!
2) Desirability – anything Turbo/performance 1980's has become very hot property ion the classic car market and the Fuego is from the same stable as other Renault Turbo icons such as the 5 Turbo and Turbo 2. The Renault Fuego Turbo was used in the film A View to a Kill starring Roger Moore as James Bond – anything ‘Bond car' is always sought after as times goes on.
3) Provenance – owned by Renault UK Ltd and then one lady owner doesn't get much better for a 30 year old car
4) History – lots of old service bills and old MOTs. There is nothing to suggest the mileage isn't 100% genuine.
5) Condition – look at the pictures. There are not many 3 year old cars in this condition let alone 30 year olds. Obviously it is not a brand new car but no classic car is; the interior is original and unmolested. the alloys are unmarked and sit on brand new firestone rubber. the car was mechanically recommissioned at a cost of £1. 00 3 years ago and the paintwork is truly magnificent.
The fuego turbo was borne out of the turbo Formula one era and was marketed on the back of the success of the Renault F1 car.

EQUIPMENT
Factory fitted Renault Sunroof. Power steering (rare in 1986). unmarked Factory BBS alloy wheels. Rare Trip computer. Sony CD player. Lockable glove compartment. Leather gear knob. Leather Steering wheel. Electric windows. Electric Mirrors. Spare wheel. Luggage cover.
EXTERIOR
The paintwork is exceptional having been pampered its whole life. There is no rust on the bodywork and you would struggle to find a stone chip or blemish of any kind. When this car is on the road people stop and take a second look. Do not buy this car unless you are comfortable with people staring in disbelief at the condition; fuel pump conversations will be commonplace!
On close inspection all of the plastic trim is still really good; the only points to note are slight grazes on the corners of the bumpers rubbing strips. All the lights are free from cracks and moisture. with all glass being the original Renault items. The windscreen is the original one in the car and is in fantastic condition. The underside of the car is also very clean and again free of any corrosion or damage.
INTERIOR
Having seen such light usage over the years the cabin remains extremely fresh and is in superb condition. The pinstripe cloth upholstery has really stood the test of time. and maintains a lovely crisp pattern throughout. The fabric does not show much signs of discolouration; a tribute to the fact this car lived in a garage most of its life. Being very critical the foam on driver's seat bolster has become weakened although this could be sorted quickly and cheaply with new foam.
Aside from the fitment of a later style ‘face-off' CD player the interior remains period correct. and is free from any modifications or ‘upgrades'. The dash and fascia are undamaged. and the carpets also appear spotless. The seats in the rear are pristine. and the rear luggage compartment also presents superbly. It looks like little if anything has ever been put in the boot.
ENGINE
The under bonnet area is wonderfully clean with all plastic components appearing factory-fresh. There are no signs of accident damage and the inner wings and slam panel look original.
The engine was serviced in 1998 at 42. 00 miles but we had the car recommissioned in 2013. There is an invoice for just under £1. 00 to include new plugs. new fuel pump. fuel pipes. filters etc. Further bills include a new alternator. new battery (just fitted). and the carburettor was stripped and rebuilt with a complete new gasket kit.
The result is a time warp piece of 1980's performance motoring. The engine starts immediately and purrs into life. The car pulls well in every gear and when on turbo ‘boost' it is a truly amazing experience; you feel yourself planted into the recaro style seats and rev counter feels relentless. The car feels far far quicker than the printed Renault figures would suggest. This car is from the era of Ford Cosworths. Audi UR Quattro's and Porsche Turbos… and turbo charged cars were not subtle. or for the faint hearted.
WHEELS. TYRES & BRAKES
The Fuego Turbo sits on its original set of 14-inch BBS alloy wheels. all of which present in excellent order having been refurbished to a high standard previously. They are complete with the correct Renault centre caps and also feature correct chrome capped wheel bolts. The alloys are shod in a brand new set of matching Firestone Multihawks.
In 2013 the car underwent a full brake overhaul and received new front and rear brake pads and calipers. replacement brake lines. new rear brake hoses and fresh brake fluid. Needless to say the car stops as well as its goes.

When we bought the car we were made aware that the earliest MOT and invoices had been misplaced. In 1996 the lady owner was still taking the car to the main dealer so we have no doubt that the car would have had many services before this probably at the main dealer. but unfortunately the dealer is no longer there and there are no records.
