1971 Triumph TR6 PI for sale
Current customer rating:
If you are looking for a Triumph TR 6 to restore the most desirable candidate would be an original right-hand drive UK-market car. an early 150 bhp CP prefix model. and in original. unmolested condition with enough good points to make the restoration viable. This '71 TR 6 is just such a car. and makes far more sense that starting with a wreck of a carb-fed. left-hand drive US import.
This TR 6 is in its original colour scheme of Pimento Red with black vinyl interior and it was originally optioned with overdrive. It is in completely standard specification with the exception of a modern stereo. a Moto Lita wood rim steering wheel and the new Minilite replica alloy wheels its currently wearing. although the original steel wheels and hub caps come with the car.
The last owners had the car for 18 years. Early in their ownership they completely rebuilt the engine. which has only covered less than 15 k miles since then. As such the engine is very sweet with excellent oil pressure and strong performance. They also renewed the metering unit so the fuel injection system works as it should and the engine runs well and sounds great through the car's fully stainless exhaust system.
Along with the original owner's manual there's a good folder of history with the car with receipts and old Mo Ts going back to the early eighties. Records indicate that the gearbox. clutch and overdrive (currently not working – we have not investigated) were replaced with new/reconditioned items in 1990 (less than 20 k miles ago) and that the body was subject to a restoration in 1985 by a Triumph specialist who replaced the wings. doors. sills. quarter panels and rear deck. We have photographs to accompany the receipts.
The chassis appears never to have been welded and looks very solid. All outer panels seem good and the bumpers are good.
Currently this TR 6 has an Mo T until March 2016. However it does need restoration. The paint and interior are tired and it will certainly need sills and floors.
Since this is the ‘right' model to restore. the engine and gearbox have been rebuilt and the chassis is original and strong this would make for a very satisfying project with the potential to be worth upwards of £25 k when completed. Perfect to drive throughout the summer then restore over next winter.
