This auction is for my Triumph Spitfire 1500.

The engine was running in October last but the car needs attention in several areas. mainly bodywork as you can see from the photos.
Last autumn it was put through an MOT but failed because there is a corroded brake pipe across the rear of the chassis and the front wing corrosion could be dangerous to passers by.
I drove the car daily to work and back for more than 3 years but now I have retired it has not been used on the road since December 2011.
I have loads of service history dating back to the original sales invoice in 1981 including several MOT's. I think the mileage of 66000 (ish) is genuine although I can't guarantee it.
The car was one of the last produced only 2 weeks before the factory closed in August 1980. The chassis number is 557 from the last known number.
As you can see from the first photo this car has the rare American style bonnet with side indicator lamps.

The body needs a complete respray after dealing with corrosion in several areas: the front and rear wheel arches. the front edge of the bonnet. the nearside lower rear wing where it joins the valance in particular.
The 9th picture shows a black left front valance. This is new and needs spraying white to match the rest of the car.
The sills are not good but could be saved. There is a hole above the door lock on the passenger side door (see pic 7). The radio aerial is broken and there is some corrosion around the hole.
The chrome is in good condition. Internally the dash and trim are good. the carpets are fair but the seats need re-foaming. The hood is OK but the plastic window is dull and a couple of press studs are broken.
There is a good tonneau cover. The boot lid is in good condition. The original jack and wheel brace are included.
There is a small tear on the front edge of the central brake lever console.
The chassis is in excellent condition with no corrosion at all. Floor pans are not corroded.
There is a very slight gearbox oil leak and this has over the years kept a fine spray of oil on the under body and chassis. It needs topping up once a month. Gearbox has overdrive on 3rd and 4th gears.
The wheels are a bit rusty but could easily be renovated. The tyres are good although the off side rear has a slow puncture.
There is a steering wheel lock as shown in the 3rd picture.
A Haynes workshop manual is included.

Recently a new battery. coil. plug leads. fuel pump. points and plugs have all been fitted. (last October). New front brake calipers were fitted when I bought the car in 2007.

The buyer will need to arrange a recovery vehicle to collect it from my garage in West Cornwall.
