Seller's NotesThis 1987 Volvo 740 GLE is ONE OF A KIND as it's all original. That means the engine, the ZF transmission, the rear end, the interior and the exterior which includes the paint are as this car was in 1987, body has never been involved in any accident. Yes, the odometer reads 577 thousand plus miles as the one owner drove daily from his home in the mountains near San Diego to a local university, one way was 52 miles. There is no question about it,, the only owner did take care of this Volvo, period! Exterior by using a car cover when parked outside or garaged when at home. All records are in a folder from 1987 to now. The selling dealer was Kirk/El Cajon Volvo which was in the East County of San Diego. Lastly, the 740 did pass smog a few months ago and will again.

Vehicle Details

This 1987 740GLE was owned by the same owner since new, he recently retired where he has always wanted a Jeep to do some off roading when retired so he no longer needed the 740.

As for me, the current seller was working as a line mechanic for the selling dealer at the time of purchase and started working for in 1977 where there came an opportunity for me to purchase recently so I did with the intention of driving this 740 and showing off its 1987 originality, just try to find another where there is alot of mileage that the Volvo can still go.

Since purchasing, I just haven't had the time to drive as I had hoped to.

The previous owner over the life of the 740 pretty much did everything (except the A/C) that was recommended thus the mileage on this Volvo.

Oil & filters were done every 3000 miles.

Here is an opportunity for a Volvo Dealer to buy and put in the Showroom so Volvo customers can aawh at.. You will never find another Volvo like this one.

Exterior

1st of all are the maintenance records kept.. Then the exterior is incredible as from 1987 with NO accidents and it is original paint.

Interior

Interior is all original, drivers seat could use a cleaning but not by me.. Also lumbar support for drivers seat is inop but the replacement part is inside car. Yes, the HEADLINER is/will be needed sooner or later, hey it is from 1987, they don't last forever and currently give a WOW factor as does the rest of car.

Engine

THE UNDERBODY appears as is without being power washed & looks good, ZF transmission appears to have some small oil seepage.' Looking at the repair orders, I can't find where the trans was removed to replace the rear main seal, I am blown away by that! The A/C compressor went bad long ago, with all the extra heat that system puts on a cooling system, perhaps that is why the engine has lasted this long without needing repair. My opinion for what it is worth.
