The Triumph TR 6 was produced between 1969-76 and. by the time
production ended in July 1976. was the best-seller of the TR range however this record was then surpassed by the angular TR 7. In total
94. 19 TR 6's were built of which 86. 49 were sold overseas and only
8. 70 were sold in the UK. The bodywork closely resembled that of
the previous model. the Triumph TR 5. but the front and rear were
squared off and all TR 6's featured inline six-cylinder engines. For
the US market the engine was fitted with carburettors for other
world markets including the UK. the TR 6 was fitted with
fuel-injection. The Lucas mechanical fuel injection system helped
the UK specification TR 6 produce 150 bhp at the model's
introduction. The TR 6 featured a four-speed manual transmission and
an optional equipment overdrive unit was a desirable feature
because it gave drivers close-gearing for spirited driving whilst
remaining an excellent touring car for open motorways. It also
featured independent rear suspension. rack and pinion steering. 15
inch wheels and tyres. pile carpet on the floors and boot. bucket
seats. and a full complement of instrumentation. Braking was
provided by disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the
rear.
This Triumph TR 6 was first registered on 7 th June 1972 and
has been owned by the current vendor since September 2001. The car
was subject to a restoration project in 1983 and has clearly been
well maintained since although the vendor has not used the TR for
six years or so. it has been dry stored and run up to temperature
occasionally. A good collection of bills up to 1995 are included in
the history file. as is the V 5 registration document. Twin
carburettors are fitted to the car currently although we are
informed the fuel injection system will be made available to the
purchaser. The odometer reading of 34. 82 miles is plus an
additional 36. 00 although the total of 70. 00 miles is thought to
be correct but cannot be warranted. Finished in Pimento red with
black trim. this is a very good opportunity to aquire a Triumph TR 6
at an affordable price given the estimate.
