The Aston Martin V 8 engine had began development in the mid
sixties when it was first used in a Lola Sports racing car with a
view to replacing the six cylinder unit which had been in
production since the DB 4 in 1958. Aston Martin converted a DB 5 with
an early V 8 engine which was used for many thousands of development
miles by the factory to create a usable and powerful eight cylinder
engine to be used in the new the DBS model due for production in
1968.
Unfortunately the engine wasn't ready in time for the launch of
the DBS and went on sale fitted with the six cylinder engine used
in the DB 4/5/6. In 1971. the DBSV 8 was launched. fitted with the
long awaited Tadek Marek designed V 8. an engine which powered all
Aston Martin models until the launch of the DB 7 in the early
nineties.
This fine V 8 Volante. in 2010/11 was subject to a ground up full
restoration. this included a completely stripping the car to bare
metal and replacing inner and outer sills. wax oiling the new
chassis components and painting in red oxide prior to reassembly
leaving this example in concourse condition. Finished in Dover
White with contrasting black mohair hood and pale parchment hide. br/>interior this particular car has been seen at AMOC Concourse events
regularly and is described as flawlessly presented. Offered with a
full and comprehensive Aston Martin history including bills. br/>previous Mo T test certificates and tax discs on file coupled with
the build sheet. there is little that could not be detailed with
this car. A pride and joy to the current owner and sure to be a
pleasure for the new owner. this really is an opportunity to own a
very special Aston Martin.
