1968 Triumph TR5 PI - Fully Restored & In Exceptional Condition for sale
Current customer rating:
1968 Triumph TR 5
An absolutely beautiful example of the rarest and most desirable Triumph TR. finished in Royal Blue with a pale blue leather interior.
It has an original (aluminium) Surrey Top and Chrome wire wheels.
Unusually. this TR 5 has had just one registered keeper since 1975. In 1989 it was treated to a total restoration to concours standard by ME & JW Pumford costing over £20 k. We have all the receipts and detailed summary of the work performed. along with a few trophies from subsequent show wins.
Further work was carried out in 2004 (by TRBitz) and 2009 to ensure that the car remained in exceptional condition.
The paint finish and panel gaps are superb. And the body is beautifully finished under the bonnet. inside the boot and under the carpets. The underside is excellent well protected and completely free of rust or sub-standard repairs.
The Surrey Top comes with the original steel hardtop (which has a sunroof fitted). along with the vinyl occasional covering and a full hood frame. should you wish to revert to a conventional hood.
Inside. the leather seats have a lovely patina. the carpets are all brand new and. unusually. this TR 5 still retains its original steering wheel and gear knob.
The chrome wire wheels are brand new and shod with new Toyo tyres. The brakes have received upgrades to Alfin drums at the rear and Wildwood four-pot alloy calipers at the front with drilled discs. It stops very well indeed.
By contrast this TR 5 also goes very well too. Judging by its performance we feel the engine has a high-lift camshaft. It sounds fabulous through its performance exhaust system and it keeps its temperature and oil pressure perfectly. The gearbox is slick and precise and the overdrive engages and disengages instantly.
We have a large history file with the car recording work performed since the mid 70 s.
In summary. this is a TR 5 in exceptional condition throughout having been restored to the correct standard. Moreover. it is one that. thanks to its glorious exhaust note and prodigious performance. cannot fail to put a smile on your face.
