1960 og paint mango westy
my 1960 og paint mango green seagull grey bus. I have owned this bus for over 11 years and restored it over a 5 year period. it was imported from Arizona in 2003 after sitting in a barn for 17 years and then stored for a further 5 years in my workshop. the bus has been fully uk weather prepared and although still in original paint with a few small dents and scratches is totally rust free. the comprehensive photographic restoration and upgrade of the underside/ inside and the mechanical was done with no expensive spared and is like new. this consists of the following.
bodywork. shell was stripped and sand blasted underneath then etched primed followed by 2 coats of high build primer then stone chipped with colour laid over. this was only done to make sure it lasted another 50 years as most of the factory paint was still in place. it only had some light surface rust. the only panels replaced were the cab floor and one outer sill as these were a little thin in places. inside was also completely taken down to metal and repainted including all doors/frames and door shuts. on the outside the new sill was painted and some small areas around the windows. these were blended in and aged with the old paint and match really well. the engine bay was also stripped and repainted including engine lid (inside). the aim was make this shell 100% like new on the inside and underneath but keeping it looking original on the outside hence keeping the character and history.
mechanical. new 1641 built engine with beetle box (£5000). vintage speed exhaust. type 3 rear brakes. straight axle conversion. adjustable spring plates. csp 14" front disc brakes. 4" narrowed adjustable front beam. droped spindles. rack and pinion steering conversion. other parts fitted. front safaris. all 6 pop outs. every rubber seal on the bus. vintage speed shifter. all rebuilt door locks on 1 key. new wiring harness. all new cables. firetrace automatic engine extinguisher. interior. fully sound proofed and insulated then ply lined and stained and varnished in a dark oak colour. so 42 interior fitted which includes bed/cool box/sink/electric running water/wardrobe/overhead locker/buddy seat/stool/table x 2/all new upholstery in a distressed leather look vinyl including front bench seat. new period looking curtains.
think I may have covered most of it . this bus is totally sorted and drives fantastic. I have receipts for over £15000 in parts alone and have not seen a better og paint mango bus it needs absolutely nothing (I have a rear bumper but prefer it without ) any inspection welcome and please email or phone me on 9 with any questions or to have a chat. I have hundreds of photos of the restoration which i can send the link to . kev £33000 ono
