1957 Devin. The "Gary Special". S-71527 racer is a purpose built at Devin's El Monte. CA location. Raced in California by Don McQuilken. and later by Donald Shaw in Canada. Has had a complete body off restoration. The engine is a race built Buick 215 alloy V8 engine running 10:1 compression. aluminum radiator. Edelbrock carburetor. Offenhauser intake and valve covers running to an aluminum T-10 4 speed manual transmission with a hydraulic clutch. All inner body panels and firewall are aluminum. Reupholstered aluminum seats. new interior and carpet. Rack and pinion steering. front disc brakes. quick release steering wheel. rear aluminum finned drum brakes. coil over front suspension. and leaf springs in the rear connecting to the highly modified TR chassis. New Dayton wire wheels with knock offs wrapped in BF Goodrich radial performance tires. and turn signals for road use.

The "Gary Special" was race purpose built at the Devin. El Monte. CA location with the assistance of James Gary. Esq. The car was entered in the 1957 Concours d'Elegance and participated in several California races in 1957. The car was featured in several Devin ads.

Following the 1957 season. the car was sold to Donald Shaw in Ontario. Canada. Shaw raced the car through several seasons. At some point. the car was re-powered with a race purpose built Buick 215.

The engine was completely rebuilt to original specs. but de-tuned from CR 12. 7/1 to 10/1. Aluminum radiator. electric fan with aluminum shroud. Edelbrock carb. . aluminum Offenhauser intake and valve covers. Hydraulic clutch. aluminum T-10 four-speed transmission. All inner panels and firewall are aluminum. Body was undamaged. Original 72-spoke wires with Pirellis (available) were replaced with new chrome knock-off Daytons and BFG performance tires. Aluminum seats reupholstered. new interior and carpet. Steering column replaced with Ididit. quick-release steering wheel. turn signals for road use. Rack and pinion steering. front disc brakes. rear finned aluminum drum brakes. Coil-over front suspension and leaf spring on highly modified TR chassis.
