Beach Buggy

Hi. here is for sale my SWB. VW Beach Buggy.

Just to give you some history first its a Beamish Buggie and registerred on the log book correctly as an historic vehicle - Beam Bug. These buggy kits were imported from Cape town. South Africa in the early 1990's the company still exists today (beachbuggy. co. za) so you can research them on the internet. As the buggy is correctly registered on the log book there is no problems at the MOT station when getting a new MOT and it is Tax free. Its also cheap to insure as a classic vehicle (approx. £130 P. A fully comp).

The pervious owner bought the vehicle in 2005 and gave the buggy a major over hall and rebuild in 2008 (lots & lots of receipts to prove).

General:

New steering box. floor pan re-ferb and re-paint. Raceland seats and full 4 point harnesses. Grant 10" steering wheel. Empi trigger shifter with quick shift kit. chrome handbrake. new dampers. stainless steel braided brake and fuel hoses. big foot accelerator pedal and new tyres all round. new fire extinguisher.

Mechanical modifications:

Engine rebuilt to 1914cc by Paul Miller of Harry Harpics.

94mm Mahle pistons and barrels. coopper head gasket shims. B I-beam 5. 4" balanced conrods. CB counterweighted 69mm crank. berg 300A cam. German 32 40 twin port heads which have been ported by Paul Miller with dual valve springs. Scat spring loaded rocker tubes. Scat heavy duty stainless push rods. Scat swivel ball tappets. full flow oil filter. remote oil breather box. 8 dowel lightened flywheel. duel Dellorto DRLA 40 carbs with spun alloy trumpets (rebuilt in 2011 by Attspeed racing). Scat stainless rocker covers. Petronix ignition. flamethrower coil. 09 distributer. spin true pulleys.

A lot of money has been spent on this engine. that has only covered approx 3. 00 miles since full rebuild.

Transmission:

4 speed. Freeway flyer spec gearbox with a 3. 1 diff and uprated internals built by Dave at Cogbox. Kennedy stage 1 clutch. SSP mid transmission mount. It delivers the power well and cruises the motorway with ease (you only select 4th gear at about 65mph+)

Exhaust:

Stainless exhaust headers custom built by Richard Thomas of Turbo Thomas with 90mm Pipes.

I purchased the buggy in March 2012 and have done the following modifications:

New steel fabricated roll cage. twin rear made to measure padded Tillet Karting seats (expensive. padded and suitable to fit younger children up to teenage years) full 4 point rear harnesses. chrome roll bar tubes. glitter ball gear knob. Repainted interior floor pan. Animal roll bar pads.

I also have four white separate leather style seat pads for the rear if you wish to remove the child seats and put in a bench style rear seat.

I have just had the new Tax free disk through until Feb 2015 and have just put a new fresh MOT on the buggy.

The family and I have had lots of fun but have spent more time cleaning and looking at it than driving it (less than 600 miles in my ownership so due to lack of use (none in the last year) its now up for sale.

Issues that may need addressing:

There is No wet weather gear. The Bug body does have the clips all around to fit one.

I'm not a mechanic. I liked enjoying the drive. having fun. since my ownership I have only ever driven it around my local area and town. Its been a lot of fun. sounds great and gets lots of positive comments / looks when out and about. Its always been reliable and drives really well. You do have to bear in mind that it has the tiny steering wheel. drum brakes all round and suspension from the 1970's therefore I would say its not an every day car or a long distance traveller. When I first purchased the buggy it was misfiring a little so I had the buggy set up and tuned properly (rolling road included) at BD engineering at Sittingbourne. Kent they did a wonderful job. It does now back fire and pop a wee bit on the overrun (i. e. when you take your foot of the accelerator pedal) so it probably needs a little TLC again. It has been sat in the garage for the last year without use. so you might be wise to give the buggy a wee service before travelling any long distance or consider trailering the buggy if you live miles away. All the main rebuild was done by the previous owner who had used the buggy and travelled around the country more than I.

The milometer on the speedo is not working (speedo and fuel gauge work fine) it never has since I've owned it. I have since purchased a couple of speedo's that will come with the buggy (just never got round to fitting one)

There is No stereo the aerials are for show only. not sure you would hear it (or want to) over the beautiful exhaust note.

Cosmetically: Its probably not a show winner. the gel coat body does have marks consistent with its age and use. one of the rear wheels does have a small amount of flaky paint. It is however. in really good condition compared to most. its been very well built and looked after. I'm sure at viewing you will not be disappointed. Underneath the chassis is in excellent order. no rust at all.

If you are a serious buyer you are welcome to come and view / inspect the buggy and I will take you for a test drive. Just give me a call or text on Tel: 07725247174

No joy riders please and I do not wish to post abroad. Cash on collection preferred.

Thank you.
