Singer Le Mans 9 Special Speed 1935 Restoration Project, barn find, rare model for sale
Current customer rating: (1026 votes ) based onSinger Le Mans 9 Special Speed 1935
Very rare 1935 Singer Le Mans Special Speed (as identified by Dave Hardwick – enthusiast and Specialist in 9HP and 1½ litre Singer Le Mans sports cars)
The special speed 1935 has a single hinge bonnet and opening vents in the A post panels. (I believe is referred to as an under slung chassis). only made on the 1935 production as the1934 and the 1936 were double hinged bonnets to the best of my knowledge.
The Car has been temporarily assembled in the photos for alignment and general purposes. nbsp;very little is bolted or fixed in place.
Please see the you tube video with all the parts that come with the vehicle as there are a great many. too many to list. /span>

I have found a great deal of local history on the vehicle. it was owned by a local Ackworth man for a number of years who raced the vehicle at Pontefract. The vehicle was registered with the De Lacy. Pontefract Motor Club which is still running. probably in service around the late 40's/50's as the 1st owner has now passed away some years ago. Unfortunately no photos at the club were available of the car racing. but I did get to speak to a gentleman who new him and raced with him. thank you DeLacy Club for your help if you happen to read this add.
Not much else I can say about the car really. the pictures speak a thousand words. it requires a full restoration. very valuable when complete. Dave Hardwick does a complete body including the wood carriage. doors. aluminium cladding. basically a complete shell for around £5k.
The wood is in pretty good condition although the main structure (sills?) are completely rotten on the drivers side. but ok on the passenger side but would still replace both sides.
The A post timber is rotten at the bottom 6 inches or so on the drivers side. and some timbers are missing along the bulk head front. and replaced with the usual dexion angled tin rack shelving steel.
I managed to get the doors clamped in place and offered up the carriage on the chassis which has rust but is in excellent condition and still has its old cast rivets in most places. the passenger door opens and closes. rear axel on (ratchet strapped on). the hubbs fitted. and the rear hand brake cables actually still work. the front axel and steering put on. front hubbs. just missing the end castle nuts for now and the front wheels can be fitted (has all 6 with 3 or 4 ok tyres) and the chassis will be rolling. For some reason it has plenty of spare full brake hubbs and inners including plates. Slave cylinders. 2 I think (non servo).
I have de filler'ed the front radiator shell and it looks OK and with a bit of work will re-chrome. paint stripped the fuel tank to look for rust and perforations and it looks fine. I can get that back into primer so it doesn't rust. currently residing in my spare room along with plenty of lights. clocks. the brass fuel tap and reserve fuel feed stop cock. The clocks and lights to which there are many require refurbishing.
The wind screen is cracked but would seem to have all its fittings.
Main missing parts are the front wings and runner boards (as this is a special speed and has runner boards) seats and the engine and box.
I may have a contact for an short motor and gear box. which I would be willing to put the buyer in contact with. may be available next year.
Not included in the sale: I also have a MG midget 1500 complete engine – box – su carbs – coil ect. basically a complete ready to fire up engine and box which can be fitted (by someone) at a separate cost this is not included in the sale!
There are a many other parts – new chrome tank straps – Fuel tank mounting frame and brackets – Spare wheel mounting bars and 3 tyre ‘cups' - wiring looms – Fuel pump – original woo gaarr horn. working – Steering wheel – axels – various suspension units in mainly poor states but with wood bushes in tact - props – spare diff casing – hand brake and mounting frame – starter motor – engine mounts – front apron – spare ‘knock ons' – HOOD FRAME is there – rear apron – various lights still fitted – door handles – door hinges – windscreen hinges the list goes on.
