1951 Plymouth Coupe - for sale
Current customer rating: (400 votes ) based onWelcome to the sale of my Custom Coupe – 1951 Plymouth Chop Top – Rat Rod Style - Imported from Grand Cane US in 2011
Sadly it has to go ! Relisted due to time- wasters
The design was such that it was to be kept all MOPAR so the car has a Chrysler 360 small block.
This custom has It has an Edelbrock 600 carburetor. an Edelbrock intake manifold. and a HEI type distributor. It has an aluminum radiator that is painted black so it didn't stick out too much installed with custom brackets for the radiator.
The engine underwent a standard rebuild (rings. cylinder hone. gaskets) at the cost of £1200. this was done state side by the car builder when he also had the transmission rebuilt. That was approximately 2000 miles ago. Last year I have driven the car to ‘Hot Rod and Hills' which was 200 or odd miles with no problems and. apart from the odd Sunday run. span > its been parked up and garaged. The engine has a MOPAR performance "purple shaft" camshaft.
The car has custom made headers. This was necessary to install this engine in this car. This is not a problem because the headers do not hang lower than the frame so there are no issues with the scrub rail. While re-building this car the body was taken off of the frame at which time we ran all new brake lines and fuel lines. The previous owner spared no expense and replaced the front brake cylinders and the brake master cylinder (single circuit) and retained the original drum brake system. The rear end is Ford 8-inch which retains the factory drum brakes. Balance valve under the driver seat.
The rear main seal on the engine drips. I don't drive the car much so I just check and top off the oil before I drive. If you have the time and energy it would be a good idea to replace that seal. There were new gauges in the dash in order to retain the original glass and a new speedometer. fuel gauge. water temperature. system voltage. oil pressure gauges. The speedometer is not working even with new speedo drive gear that is matched to the tire size. I never got around to installing it. The speedo drive gear will need to be installed in order for the speedo to work. The fuel gauge does not work great it is a 12 volts gauge set up for Ford (reads resistance).
It has a stick shift changed from a column shift for the ‘Old skool rod look' you can ride – with your hand high and hang.
The car has a universal underdash heating unit. The heater works. The windshield wipers are new electric at great expense and the chopped windshield wipers work like a dream.
The fuel tank has a "pinhole" near the top of the tank. When I fill the tank full of fuel it will leak until the level is below the pinhole. I drove it like that. but I had plans to replace the tank with something else. like a Mustang tank. I never got around to doing that. You should do ahead and replace the tank to solve the leak.
To recap. the most important issues that should be addressed in order to make this vehicle more enjoyable are:
The Chop and Drop
The car has been chopped 6 inches in the front and 7 inches in the rear. The "B" pillars were forward so it looks right and the screen is new flat gas in the front windshield and rear quarter windows. The car has new windshield rubber. The back glass is original to the car and the car was slanted to fit – ALL THE WINDOWS ARE GLASS.
The car has been lowered with blocks on the rear and cut with a full coil off of the front springs. The rear bumper on this car is from a 1953 the front and rear bumpers and sectioned them to make a bumper for this car.
Other items of importance
The driver and passenger doors have electric windows fitted (one piece) The buyer will also receive extra parts that I purchased while working on the car. As you know the parts for this car are hard to find. so I purchase several additional pieces as I came across them. These parts include things like: instrument panel. tail light bezels. license plate trim. correct 1951 rear seat (needs upholstering to match).
Photos and more.
Please look at the photos. Keep in mind this is a used car. it is not perfect. I did my best to show The Good. The Bad. and The Ugly. Please look at the photos to determine if the condition is suitable for you. Look in the photos for things like scuffs. scrapes. scratches. If you see anything that may bother you then this car might not be for you. If you see anything that you would like to ask a question about. please feel free! I want you to be satisfied that the item is well represented before you make a decision to purchase. I will answer any questions to the best of my ability.
The car can be seen on You Tube when you type in 1951 Plymouth – it pops up.
IT'S A ONE OF A KIND – the only one like it in the UK and possibly the world!!!!!.
Note the Kustom Pinstriping
