1966/D LOTUS ELAN S 3 SE -
The original Elan was introduced in 1962 as a roadster. although an optional hardtop was offered in 1963 and a coupe version in 1965. The two-seat Lotus Elan replaced the elegant. but unreliable and expensive to produce Lotus Elite.
This outstanding Coupe variant is of the highest of calibres having had just 3 former keepers since first being registered on 21 st March 1966. The last owner before the vehicle was restored had owned it since 1981 before it was brought back to its very best in 2007.
The photographed restoration began in 2006 where the vehicle was stripped down to a bare chassis (which was then replaced for a new galvanised chassis) and built back up over the course of a year. The body was completely resprayed and every component was overhauled. The engine provides good smooth power through a faultless gearbox and drive train. It is also fitted with a stainless steel exhaust system giving a sharp raspy “twin-cam” exhaust note which is music to any enthusiast!
The vehicle still retains its original “Colin Chapman” steering wheel and as it is the “SE” model it is also fitted with electric windows and also a leather interior.
This vehicle is now ready to be enjoyed over the summer months and is one of the best appreciating classics on the market today.
