1954 Standard Vanguard car transporter. modelled on Mike Antony's race car transporter built in the 1950's to carry his Lotus 11 race car around Europe. Constructed from a phase ll Vanguard saloon to carry our Vanguard race car (see my other listings) the transporter retains its original engine. three speed gearbox with overdrive and original back axle. The engine benefits from a gas flowed cylinder head fitted with larger valves and a twin choke carb. The radiator has been re-cored and fitted with an electrical fan. The brakes have been uprated with the fitting of a servo plus all new shoes and cylinders. The cars are loaded by the means of two alloy ramps and a remote controlled electric winch. The vehicle complete with our Standard race car loaded on its back was voted "The Most Interesting Vehicle" at the 2011 NEC classic car show (see photo 12) and has transported our race cars without drama to race circuits across the country. The transporter has featured in many magazines and is featured in the David Cross book "Inside The Paddock". a book on motor racing support vehicles. The vehicle is welcomed to all the historic race meetings and always draws a large admiring crowd where ever she goes. The bodywork is in superb condition and all the lettering is stick on vinyl so can easily be removed. The tyres are all new and the original seat and door cards have been recovered in green leather. The car comes with a large history file. plus the transporter is obviously MOT exempt and tax free.
