Mini Marcos MKIV for sale
Current customer rating:
MKIV Mini Marcos Race car. was first registered in 1982 as a mini Marcos. converted by me into a Race car to compete in the 750 MC Group K class. I have the V 5 in my name. as it has been for most of the last 20 years ! some mentions of its history on MMOC website. but highlights include 2 years running class winner in 6 hour relay race. under the minute at Mallory. awesome handling in the wet. (note white tape on steering wheel) saw 1. 33 more than once at Snetterton. eye popping acceleration. teeth cracking brakes. totally predictable faintest hint of understeer in dry.
This car was built for Group K and has some unusual quirks as such. No LSD allowed. car has to retain head. block. gearbox diff castings from one nominated car. along with carb and inlet manifold. technically street legal cars ie. MOT working lights wipers street tyres etc.
but as rules allowed free modifications to internals and running gear. a 310 cam and roller tip rockers on a short stroke crank with very firm and low suspension would make it street stupid. I did try it once. to run in a new engine. never again!
This car has sat in my garage since 93 waiting for me to have the time and funds to play again. sadly I've never been able to find either. Car now makes way for other projects!!
The car. MKIV in white. SPAX adjustables all round. mini beam type rear suspension with VERY wide custom mounted training arms. anti roll bars front and rear. custom wiring loom. only one seat (Cobra Kevlar racing seat) Britax harness. CDS 2 half roll cage to RAC MSA spec. battery in box. quick detach front end. skinny weight bonnet. oil cooler front mounted rad RC 40 exhaust. 6 x Yoko 175/50/13 Vented Metro discs with 4 pot calipers on genuine S uprights supermini fins at rear. adjustable camber. adjustable toe etc etc
Engine. FULL MED big bore short stroke 1300. UNUSED since full rebuild fitted with all the goodies. nitrocarburised crossdriled crank. polished S rods 310 kent cam. 1. 5 roller tips. full race big valve head (the one with ports you can make love to) ceramic clutch.
straight cut drops. belt drive cam. belt drive pump and alternator. optical ignition set etc etc etc. last tested at 118 horses. currently breathing through single 1 3/4 HIF. but might get more out with DCOE etc. straight cut drops on S close ratio set with Bronze baulk rings. I cant remember if it has the 3. 9 diff or the 4. 1 fitted but I'm sure I have the other one somewhere.
this is not a toy. this is a serious race car or hill climber. and in the right hands is gonna fly. ideal base for you to develop further. I think it could have developed a bit more power with a DCOE but rules never allowed.
As the car sits. It has been in my garage for best part of 20 years now. a few bits I know are missing. fire extinguishers. (they were Halon anyway). Battery and coil were borrowed for dads Moggy minor. the flywheel is missing. it does need a proper steel race flywheel. the rear wheel arches (skinny weight designed to break off). suffered a few too many nudges off the start line and will need to be replaced. I have a pair of moulds to make your own. although it looks scruffy in the first pic. the GRP is sound. no fluffy or compromised bodywork.
more info or pictures by request. Viewing possible in Northamptonshire. if you want to call me send a number and be prepared for a LONG chat :-)
have fun
Jim
ps. This is an AUCTION. buy it now correspondence will be ignored!!
pic 4 was taken in 92 I think. exiting the Esses at Snetterton.
