Description

1941 Willys Coupe

The Willys Americar was a line of automobiles produced by Willys-Overland Motors from 1937 to 1942, either as a sedan, coupe, station wagon or pickup truck. The coupe version is a very popular hot rod choice, either as a donor car or as a fiberglass model. Only the 1941-1942 models were called "Americar", (441 and 442 models respectively), following the patriotic trend of the time. When Joseph W. Frazer joined the company in 1938 he decided that a modern-looking and cheap compact car was the answer for the struggling Willys.

For consignment, a wild and wooly Willys, with a Pearl White and House Of Kolors Tangelo Orange paint job that gives us the look of torn paper, or just plain old clawed metal which is just fab! This is a competition car and does have a PA state inspection so tread lightly. On the back a large spoiler is framing the split rear oval glass. Definitely a neck snapper, and an eye catcher.

Exterior
With front and rear bumpers as well as door handles shaved, headlights frenched custom rear taillights and some massive side exit pipes she's a runner and looks as though it's moving when standing completely still. The tangelo uppers of the car become ripped or clawed as they blend into the bottom pearl white. No running boards here, just big fenders which frame front polished Chassis Works edge riveted effect wheels wrapped in 25x7.50-R15 front Hoosier rubber, and rear ultra-wide and polished Chassis Works 15-inch wheels wrapped in massive 33X-22.50-15 radials by Hoosier. The hood sports a snazzy scoop, and on the back, a large rear wing to keep everything on the ground when it's being pounded. Lovely yet frighteningly fast in looks and performance.

Interior
Slipping inside we are greeted with a tangelo framed door with very nicely sculpted saddle tan padded leather panels. An oval actuator and window toggle are seen within this padded leather field. Grabbing a spot in the bucket in front of the wheel, I plant myself in rounded padded leather seats that have Michelin man-esque design, light saddle tan smooth bolsters, and rounded darker tan tuck and roll inserts. Competition 5 point seat belts are on both of these chairs. Also, I notice I'm fully encased within a roll cage that frames the interior and has hoops behind the seats. A beautifully designed all shiny polished steering wheel sits atop a tile column. The dash which is painted in tangelo has Autometer gauges with satin bezels and white faces and these run across the dash front. In front of the passenger is a lineup of black toggles to turn various functions on and off. On top of the dash directing its attention to the driver is a large Autometer tachometer with shift light. Between the seats is a B&M Pro Shifter which looks incredibly complex. The headliner has a molded shelf to house the AM/FM/CD stereo for when you are running your 1/8th mile you can have some classical tunes in the background. This car also has a nitrous bottle setup, and beautifully fabricated stainless boxes in the trunk for the battery and fuel tank with an Aeromotive fuel pump and filter inside. All within a pristine tan carpeted environment.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is pure automotive art in the form of a super shiny 565ci V8. Our consignor states it puts out 750 horses. There are aluminum heads on each side and on top is a Holley Dominator 4-barrel carb. Also as mentioned a 150hp shot, nitrous plate system. On the back is a 2-speed automatic Dedenbear Powerglide transmission which has a trans brake and a 10-inch converter. Power goes rearward to a Ford 9-inch 4.56 gear rear, and it has a spool. Just a crazy shining diamond!

Undercarriage
Near perfection underneath with many polished parts, tangelo painted frame and floor pans polished bottom end, polished headers, and a polished driveshaft. Braided stainless lines snake their way around this environment as well, and I see a Mustang II front end and ladder bars with coil overs on back. Power disc brakes are all around. Also, side exit pipes have race mufflers on either side.

Drive-Ability
These cars are waaaay over this writer's head so I had my partner in crime take me for a spin, and it was an E ticket ride. He reported and I felt plenty of acceleration and we did not use the bottle. Good handling and plenty of stopping power with this car you will definitely need! It had plenty of creature comforts and all of the work. The speedometer does not work. The consignor will even throw in an extra set of rear wheels and tires.

A true race car with awesome paint, plenty of creature comforts, and all in working pristine clean order. Even the undercarriage you could eat off of, but please nothing greasy! Show and go...like hell!
