This is a nice old International.  It came from Deer Lodge. Montana where it spent its entire life until I bought it last fall.  An old man died and left this to his grandson. who is in High School.  It hadn't been driven for a few months before that. the boy and his dad got it running about the time the boy got his drivers license.  They did a lot of work to it in the next couple years but it was just too much of a money pit for a high school boy and burned too much gas for his slim earnings at an after school job so I bought it from him so he could buy something he could afford to take his girlfriend out in.
I'd known the truck for years and have several other Internationals so bought it.  I just don't need another project. I'm already buried in a 1976 Scout and have three other Internationals.  So it is for sale.  It shows 95500 miles which I am pretty sure is accurate.  I saw it just after the boy inherited it and it had about 92. 00 miles on it so they only drove it 3-4 thousand miles in the three or four years he had it.  He wasn't old enough for a license in Montana when he got it.  The grandfather bought it new or nearly new about the time he retired and all he did with it in recent years was go fishing. go to the dump and the occasional auction.  When I knew the truck years back it always had a topper on it but no high school boy drives a pickup with a topper so it is long gone.   It was pretty faded -- it's a 40 year old cornbinder paint job so they were going to paint it.  That's why the holes are filled. it's in primer. etc.  They did a nice job on the body work. there are only a few little things that will need to be brought up to snuff. then it will need a good scuff and prime and it should be ready for an International quality paint job.  If you want a show quality paint job you will need to do more work.
Here is what they did to it recently -- or at least since the young man inherited it four years ago.    New StarterNew Battery and cables Distributor converted to points and condensor to get rid of troublesome electronic ignitionRadiator professionally rebuilt and added electric fanBelts and hoses -- not all but mostEngine heater for winter startsCarburetor professionally rebuiltPower steering hosesRocker cover gaskets. etc.  Nice chrome wheels and new tires.  Looks like the shocks are new.  Brake work -- I'm not sure what but the brakes work fine.  It has power brakes as well as power steeringDual exhaust which still needs some work.  You can hear an exhaust leak with it runningReplaced the front clip with virtually perfect fenders and hood.  New windshield -- this may have been done before he got it -- no cracks or significant chipsFilled all the holes in the side of the body where the trim had been mounted so the sides are smooth and nice.  Primed metal in prep for paint.  Stereo system - PioneerLots of little things. dash lights etc.
This had a topper on it most of its life so the inside of the box is virtually perfect.  There is no rust in the corners like there is in most of these.  Very little rust anywhere that I can see.  The tailgate needs a little work.  The grill has a couple good smacksThey tried to put a bumper off a Ford on it.  It looks nasty and the original IHC bumper is with it.  I dunno why they did that.  Kids.
Doesn't appear to burn much if any oil.  We drove it about 75 miles home. since it had been setting since last summer it was pretty gummed up. we dumped a can of Lucas carb cleaner in it and it cleared up a lot.  Drove it home about 65-70. drives fine -- considering it is a 40 year old International -- they didn't drive all that good when they were new.  Steering is tight. brakes are good. power brakes work. power steering works. we checked the four wheel drive it all works.
The four wheel drive hubs. etc. . all work fine.  Two speed transfer case.
You can fly in and drive this home.  It is good to go.  The heater works. the wipers work. etc.  The boy was driving this to school and to the prom. etc. so it is safe. the brakes are good. all the lights work except the side markers.  It has been licensed. insured and in use right up until school started last fall. when they dropped the insurance. parked it and bought a small car for the kid to drive.  I would have no qualms about driving this anywhere.  It is pretty happy about 65 or 70 on the freeway.  They were never intended to be a speed bomb.
The seat upholstery needs to be cleaned and a tear in the side of the seat on the drivers side needs fixed. other than that the interior is pretty nice.
The left side gas tank is unhooked but the right side one is fine.
If you have read down this far you are an International fan and know the story about them.  This was the last year of the pickups and they weren't all that great when they were new.  They tended to start rusting on the show room floor. the doors didn't fit right on some of them and they rattled leaving the dealership with the first owner.  They also tended to be bought by people who intended to use them as a work truck and did.  Beat them all to hell and didn't maintain them.  This is a pretty rare example of a good one that never was a farm truck.  If you are not familiar with Montana you will not believe how rust free things are here.  Up until the last two or three years there was no salt on the roads. it is a dry climate and things just don't rust much here.  This thing would look like a cheese grater if it had come out of Wisconsin.  Not so here.  There is no rust in the doors. they open and shut like new. the hinges are not rusted away. the cab corners are not rusted. the box isn't rusted. pretty much no rust underneath. never used hard.  I think the guy that owned it lived 8-9 miles out of town and bought a 4 wheel drive so they could get back and forth to the highway if roads got bad.   While I'm not sure he bought it new I remember seeing this truck around town for the last 30+ years with the same guy driving it.  Also used to see it at auctions a lot.  You're not going to find a much better one.
In the pictures it shows there is no battery.  I pulled it out and put it in the garage for the winter.  I will put a new battery in before you leave with it.  There is also a box of small parts that is with it.  The electronic distributor. some marker lights. little of this and that. not much but you might be able to use it.
It is not perfect.  It is a 40 year old International but it's a nice old rig.  If you like Internationals. you'll like this one.  The price is fair.  If somebody gave you one. you would spent this much getting it in this condition and probably couldn't do it.
I have a clear title
I'd keep it but I have a 1968 Ford F100 I'm working on. I'm building a Model T speedster and still work every day even tho I'm too old.
