Thank you for viewing the listing for our Morris 1100 MK1 in Tartan red, we have owned this car since July 2020, In that time we have done lots and lots of work to the car, attended some shows where the car drew lots of attention including joint third place members choice of cars at the 1100 club national rally which suddenly made our efforts worth it. The car is used frequently for long (50 ish miles) and short runs (round town) and has never broke down or revealed major issues. We are displaying our advert in categories listing any faults were are aware of to our knowledge, despite its beautiful condition it does have smaller faults or room for improvement like any other classic car we are only describing them out of trying to be correct
The following should be taken as a guide to the cars condition only and not a conclusive list of the cars condition, peoples opinions of a car differ and more so when it is a classic car and whilst we are providing a honest guide to the car there maybe faults or points to note that were not aware of.Spec : 1098cc high compression block likely to be from a MG or Wolseley 1100, 12G295 big valve Mini Cooper cylinder head, CT Tuning inlet manifold, K&N air filter, Weber twin Carburettor, servo assisted brakes - you know you have those!, Modified exhaust with welded in flexible joint - none of the usual trouble with the manifold to exhaust joint blowing, Alternator conversion, electric screen washer, rota safe radiator cap and 12v output handy for charging your phone etc. Standard items include disc front brakes and electric fuel pumpWhat we know : The car has red seats, there is a very old picture of the car on a internet search engine and you can just about see it has grey seats this would likely have been correct when the car was new, this is something that has bothered us but we haven't found any grey seat good enough to fit to the car so far. The car has some film history to, it was used in : The Great Train Robbery - a robber's tale" and there is paperwork to prove this within the cars history. The car does have a far amount of paperwork but not conclusive, it would appear some owners have been religious with this whilst others haven't bothered to much. The old Mot's start from 1990 but not inclusive and the bills follow this pattern also, we have kept bills where possible for everything we have brought. We have displayed the cars history in a quality four ring arch file and displayed everything within slips to protect it. The club - well this is by far the best owners club around in our opinion, they are very friendly and amazing and more than one of them have helped us out without reserve, we have nothing but 100% respect for the 1100 club and considered to be a must have advantage to owning a classic car, we will continue to be members after the car has a new ownerBodywork : As you can see by the pictures the car is in beautiful condition visually, We think the car has been restored as three of the door are from a VDP because there is a hole in the inside top to mount the wood trim. The front wings inner including trumpets and outer, inner and outer sills, bonnet and roof are all in excellent condition. We were told by the last keeper the car had the bulkhead repaired some years ago so anyone that knows these cars knows that's a good thing - no water ingress!. I am not aware of any major hidden rust and the condition of the car hasn't deteriorated in our ownership even though it lives outside all the time. Most of the brightwork is also excellent and numerous parts have been replaced over the years, the only piece of brightwork that lets the car down is the centre trim on the bonnet but we have purchased a replacement and it will come with the car, we have replaced the rear overriders since taking the pictures. In our ownership we have also repainted two wheels, and fitted new number plates with the correct items for the age of the car. Also purchased for the car is a roof rack, we choose carefully as we wanted a small roof rack to give the illusion that the car was bigger, we bought a roof rack dating back to the 1930's as these tend to be smaller and restored it which included painting it the same colour as the wheels, it looks a real treat on the car and is included in the sale. Underside of the car is also very good with no signs of major welding repairs, we cannot look at the inside of the floors as the car has adhesive sound deadening on it but from the underside it looks to very good, my husband has spent enough time under there to know!. The subframes are in very good the rear one has slight rust on it and when we brought it we found a split around two inches long, we decided to have this professionally repaired as the rest of the subframe was deemed good enough not to warrant replacing it, it has stone guard on it and in random places we have chipped some off to expose shiny black paint underneath in places and other places it was found to be sound. We have noticed there is a small hole inside the rear passenger inner wheel arch, it wasn't there till we choose to have a poke about one day. There is some bubbling on the car in some areas but these are small and have not broke through the paint, they we there when we got it, these places are at the side of the windscreen pillar both sides and one under the drivers side front indicator, there are a couple of smaller bubbles but nothing bigger than your fingernail. The seems on the car are all perfect with no rust bubbling. the front panel is believed to have been replaced as it's even great on the underside where it rolls under the bumper, the rear panel is also excellent, as you can see by the pictures displayed the cars lower section is not only rust free but completely straight with no swelling at the base of the doors. All the glass is good with no scratches, The window rubbers look to have been replaced and the door rubbers are all good, inside the boot the floor is excellent and there is signs of wax in the cavities, this is also present on the sills, the inner wings in the engine bay at the tops where these can rust are very good with so signs on rust, inside edges of the doors are all very good inside lip of the boot has a little bit of rust starting on the off side lower corner but its not bad enough to do anything about yet. The car has wing mirrors as shown in the pictures but they have been removed to stop them tearing our car cover and they will be supplied with the carInternally : Inside the car is also excellent, the seats are perfect with no damage, the carpet looks new, the door cards are free from damage, there is room to improve the inside, the roof lining was painted black at some point so recovering would would be good for this but its flat so you can do it yourself, the lower dash try was bad when we got the car so we removed it to replace it, we have sourced a replacement but it will need a small amount of work before fitting which we haven't had chance to do, so is supplied with the car for the new keeper to do, we have replaced the seatbelts with more modern ones as our grandson has been with us in the car and we needed to fit his child seat, the seatbelts were brought from a Land Rover specialist. The rear parcel shelf is in great condition and we have brought a colour coded period correct wool picnic blanket and that will go with the car. The steering wheel and the switch are all in good condition. The dash itself had a "1100" badge on it when we got it which was removed as it wasn't correct but this has left two small holes. The window catch for the drivers side front quarter window has recently broke. The car is supplied with a anti theft device.Mechanics : This is the area we have spent most time on whilst in our ownership, when we got the car it drove awful and you got overtaken by the passage of time trying to get anywhere. The head gasket had failed and the been left like it for a long time, we sourced a quality Glacier one from those lovely chaps at Dartford Rebore, it was expensive but there top quality, whilst doing this the water pump was replaced and the radiator were replaced with new items, most the hoses were replaced and a silicone bypass hose was fitted, most the jubilee clips were replaced and a full service was carried out, now the car ran and went well but it wasn't quite right. We took the car to Sanspeed in Bexleyheath - we have taken many of our cars to them over the years and their knowledge there is unteachable. The car had a tune up to make it run and perform the best it could, they issued a report with the car and advised the following - consider electronic ignition but haven't done this as we prefer point etc, air filter screws loose, we investigated this and the top of the carb need retapping to secure the air filter better, poor cylinder balance on cylinder number two suspect poor valve seat, we agree with this as the head gasket was left for so long before we brought the car this is something that skipped our minds when we did the head gasket but have not acted on it yet as the car is perfectly usable as it is. They also noted the rotor arm is the riveted type and can sometimes short out we have a bonded one to supply with the car. I commented to them that the car flooded in the mornings and was a bit spluttey though normal driving you get used to it and it's not excessive, they suggested not using the choke, we haven't and have not had a problem since, this is due to the carburettor on it, ideally replacing it with a HS4 or HS6 would be a better option. After this attentions were turned to the brakes, both rear wheel cylinders we replaced, both rear flexible hoses were replaced, the frame hose was replaced, the entire rear pipework system was removed, inspected and blow though with the airline and re assembled. We feel there is slight play in the rear wheel bearings and although doing there job the oil seals are hard, We haven't had chance to find the bearing kits for the rear but they are Unipart GHK 1009, we do have new Payen oil seals and new brake shoes to supply with the car, the brake shoes on the car still have life in them so we didn't change them incase the seals leaked. The clutch pedal does not quite return fully to the top we suspect another hose but something we haven't got around to doing, the hoses are cheap enough, but in case of the worse case we bought a master cylinder repair kit and that will come with the car, the clutch doesn't slip, the exhaust is in good condition, the gearbox changes well and it has never overheated, the front tyres are fairly new, the rears have got good tread, the spare is a good one but the wrong size, we will be supplying modern tools to replace the original tools for changing the tyre. When we did the head gasket the heater Valve was replaced but now the cable doesn't reach, the original needs refitting and comes with the car. The battery is recent and under warrantyExtra's : When we got the car there were no spares, we have spent our entire ownership travelling to car shows and autojumbles, anything we have found that fits the car we have brought which is mostly new some genuine parts and some not, there is some used parts including three spare Hydrolastic units worth a few quid on their own, now all this stuff is going to be given away with the car you will need a medium size car with the rear seats down to collect the parts, there is four large boxes plus other larger partsIt doesn't stop there! : Together with the car we will provide, 1 x copy of "Tuning, Maintenance and Modification of BMC 1100's" by David marshall and Ian Frazer, 1 x copy of "The 1100 companion" by Kenneth Ullyett, 1 x BMC Genuine workshop manual, 1 x haynes workshop manual, 1 x autobooks workshop manual, 1 x A3 poster advertising the 1100, 1 x owners hand book, 1 x history file, 1 x BMC service book - the actual one for this car with stamps in it!, selection of original BMC service bulletins related to the car, selection of original BMC technical information relating to the car, some 1100club items and its presented medal from the club for its joint third place at the 1100 club national rally as we believe this should remain with the car, Various copies of Idle Chatter the clubs Magazine in which the car features in some.Terms of our sale : We will not be accepting offers without viewing you will be asked to come and look at the car and we will not make a agreement over the phone without the car being viewed and approved.
