Now is your opportunity to acquire a piece of history and take your family away on holiday this summer…1960's style! Imagine days gone by when the husband. wife and their four nippers piled into the back and took the long journey to Clacton holiday camp looking forward to their yearly get away. You may even be like us and remember going to Tilbury Kart track with your Zip Kart squeezed in the back…bless Martin Hines! You may not even be old enough to have these memories but why not be the envy of all your friends as you take this piece of history to Glastonbury festival this year and create new memories living your hippie dream in a wet sodden field. This ‘green machine' is waiting for you…

First registered on 01/05/1963. this Ford Thames 400E camper van is a Dormobile conversation by Martin Walter Ltd. The Dormobile and other commercial vehicle conversions sprouted from the increasing popularity and affordability of the car. and more importantly van with the masses. Commercial vehicles were starting to be used as family transport and in some cases living accommodation for the owners. with people putting cushions and mattresses in the back of the vans. One of these conversions was the Ford Thames van.

This van is currently taxed and it still runs with its most recent trip being to the New Forest National Park! The 1703cc engine still runs superbly despite the age of the van and has done 96774 miles. The front cabs interior is in good condition as well. Even though this van still drives it does need a fair amount of work to restore it to its former glory. The top gutting will require some work and there has been a leak in the roof which has caused rust damage to the interior roof seal. The interior seats are currently useable with some tears in the seats which will need repairing. There is a wooden storage cabinet which has been built to serve its camper function but is not the original.

The MOT for the van expired in September 2014 and will need to be towed in order to take away legally from us. If you have any questions about the vehicle please call Mark on 07932 933337.

Hello, I would buy your ford camper today if I could sell my 1950's formula four 250cc class racing car to raise the money. The car has a 1937 triumph tiger 70 motorcycle engine and gear box and 400x8" split rim wheels. If you know anyone who is into historic race cars, please let me know. Cheers keith.
