1935 Dodge Pickup

Dodge sailed into 1935 full of confidence, its light-duty trucks again little revised, but now carrying steel-roofed cabs with front-hinged doors. By now they didn't look so much like the passenger cars, which had received two styling facelifts, but the trucks didn't need any. Business was so good that production expanded into Los Angeles and Canadian plants.

For consignment, a fully custom street rodded pickup truck courtesy the white hat boys from 1935. Bought from a 90 car/truck collection in upstate NY, it has plenty of goodies and modifications as you can see just by the first shot! Dig deeper and you too will be impressed.

ExteriorFor this half ton pickup a full frame off restoration leaves us with a stunner. Dipped in purple, shaved suicide doors, a black vertical louvered grille and black radiator surround, chromed bezel headlights in purple bullet styled casings, and the open hood to show off the scoop were truckin' now! All excellent surfaces showing no rust and well minded gaps. A tubbed and fully restored bed, lined with teak and mahogany with chromed dividers is also awesome. No tailgate and a custom bumper-less rear roll pan with small angled billet bezel style taillights and through the panel exhaust pipes. A nice ass with the curvaceous fenders on either side. The running boards have been ribbed with teak as well which adds an interesting look. Speaking of which we cannot forget the airbrushed art which appears as zig zagging neon tubes in white and light blue working their way from their thin beginnings in front and getting wider as they do a crossover in the middle and running to the top of the bedsides on the rear. 14-inch aluminum slots are in front wrapped by 195/75R14's and in back 15 inch aluminum slots wrapped by very wide 31x18.50R15 Mickey T's. Light 'em up!

InteriorOpening the suicide doors we see padded gray vinyl for the main panels. Actual cut wood is making a descending lightning bolt design and is within this gray vinyl padding. A wood door pull, and billet window crank are also mounted to these doors. Stepping over the teak ribbed running boards, we slip inside into aluminum tubbed buckets with a fabricated center cup holder console, also in aluminum. Purple padded cushions line these aluminum bomber style buckets. Upfront a purple dash with solid wood for the dash front, has an undulating oval cutout in which purple canvas burlap-esque tweed shows through and houses the vintage looking VDO white faced gauges. A rally wheel with a tilt column fronts the custom dash, and in the field of blue carpeting a Hurst Super Shifter rises for the driver's hand.

DrivetrainAll aboard and under the hood of this freight train is now a 350ci crate engine topped with dual 4-barrel Edelbrock carbs, and if this is not enough let's throw in a Dyers 6-71 Supercharger. On back, Muncie M21 4-speed manual tranny, with Ford 9-inch rear axle. Light those candles and we're not going to sing Happy Birthday, we're going to make some smoke!

UndercarriageClean and rust free, obviously the beneficiary of the frame off restoration. The boxed frame is also gusseted. For the ride and handling now showing is a Mustang 2 mixed with some Fiero front suspension, and adjustable front shocks are here too. Also adjustable upper control arms are mounted on. On back are a 4 link with coil over setup with a smaller axle to accommodate the wide rubbers in their tubs. Disc braking is up front and drums for the rear. No rust under here with a purple frame and blue metallic underbody panels. Also its a drip free environment with plenty of polished metal mechanicals, and tubes.

Drive-AbilityExcellent in a word, starts right up, and runs smoothly. A pleasure to drive. Even nicer to look at. There definitely is no foolin' around on this test drive. This is a seriously powerful truck.

A better example will have to be really searched for, as this one is a true winning pickup rod. Excellent build, all correct, all steel, and looking right out of the 1935 Dodge Brothers Showroom in front and totally custom in back and for the interior in a word snappy. Turn the key and collect the trophies.
