The MGB is a sports car launched in May 1962 to replace the MGA.
Introduced as a four-cylinder roadster. a coupé with 2+2 seating
was added in 1965. The MGB was a relatively modern design at the
time of its introduction. utilising a monocoque structure instead
of the traditional 'body-on-frame' construction used on both the
MGA and MG T-types. The lightweight design reduced manufacturing
costs while adding to overall vehicle strength. Wind-up windows
were standard and a comfortable driver's compartment offered plenty
of legroom. The MGB's performance was considered brisk at the time
of its introduction with a 0-60 mph time of just over 11 seconds
aided by the relatively light weight of the car. Handling was one
of the MGB's strong points. The three-bearing 1798 cc B-Series
engine produced 95 bhp at 5400 rpm and the engine was upgraded in
October 1964 to a five-bearing crankshaft in an effort to improve
reliability. The MGB was one of the first cars to feature
controlled crumple zones designed to protect the driver and
passenger in a 30 mph impact.
This ex Californian 1972 MG B Roadster was imported into the UK
in 1998.
Purchased by the vendor in 2001 to be rebuilt to his
specification by marquee specialists Surrey Sports & Classics
of Ripley in Surrey. they set about a complete ground up
restoration converting it to righthand drive. rebuilding the
engine. boring it to 1860 cc and fitting a fast road cam shaft other modifications included fitting overdrive. Peco sports
exhaust. ventilated front discs with Green Stuff brake pads. br/>Motolita woodrim steering wheel and Kenlow fan.
In the last
few months the vendor has had the car re-commissioned after a
period of storage and items which were replaced were the radiator. br/>steering rack. modern starter motor. prop-shaft. braided oil
cooler pipes. water pump and batteries. Finished in Metalic
Riviera Silver Blue with the original style black leather with
white piping. this MG B has been regularly waxoiled and is supplied
with a cream fibreglass hardtop. tonneau cover. V 5 C registration
document. an Mo T test certificate which expires in September 2014. br/>photographs of the restoration. invoices. old Mo T test certificates
and a Heritage dating certificate. This is an extremely pretty and
properly restored classic British sportscar in excellent order
throughout.
