Hi this is our 1986 Mk 1 Golf Karmann Convertible. This car was taken off the road in 2008 (having covered only 64000 miles) for "a freshen up"! but instead received a full professional bare shell respray inside and out. all panels and body kit were painted individually off the shell and all running gear removed to allow the floor to be painted correctly. This was the way I found the car when I bought it in winter 2009. My intention was to re-assemble the car and sell it finished that following summer (I have worked full and part time as a Mk 1 VW Specialist since 1989) but the more time spent I working on the car the more of a treasure I realised it was. This has to be one of the best Mk 1 shells left with Zero rust. bodge. or filler!

When I build a car I have learned that it makes for best to look for donor car's. this way I can source the expensive parts and off set their cost against the sale of the bits not needed.

So with this car tucked up in the back of the work shop for the next 2+ years I wheeled and dealt my way though many cars and failed projects. always squirreling the best bits for this car.

June 2012 the car was finished and given to my Wife for her birthday and has been very. very much enjoyed since!Finished Spec:1986 golf cabrioletfull 1991 reconditioned GTI/GTX running gear Auline Retro dish rimms (tyre's as new)Sports Gas Suspension Kit Eibach Roll Bars front and rear Fully Powerflex Bushed Re-con Steering Rack New Fuel Tank (vag) and Lines Goodridge Hose Kit DX Motor with Tim Styles Racing. TSR head and camshaft (135 bhp)Protec Polished 4 Branch Exhaust Manifold Stainless System TSR Gear Linkage TSR Tuned Zender Competition Grill with New Mk 1 Scirocco Storm Hella lamps Sportline power Mohair roof Sportline door builds inc (vag) power window kitleather Recaro trim Momo sport steering wheel. boss and shifter CD player and expensive sound systemplus more. This car starts and drive fantastic but my wife had wanted me to replace the exhaust as its is quite loud. If we were able to keep the car then I had chosen a Jetex system for it priced at £240.

We have a very genuine reason for sale in that we require more funds for our self-build home and indeed will be selling off more of our rare Mk 1 based collection! please keep a look out. car will come with 12 mot and 6 months road tax. regards Mike.
